Ceramic Football Player Bank University of Michigan & Signed Hockey Puck Wash Capital
Never know what the wife will bring home These things are totally out of my league. I tried to look up the football player on ebay, but could not find another. Reminds me of the Bobble Heads I have (Maybe 60s?). As for the Hockey Puck - I have no clue - could be some kids signed it!
Would appreciate any info that could be provided. Thank you, Last edited by smokelessjoe; 08-02-2012 at 04:47 PM. |

Hi Shawn, we're certainly no autograph experts here -- far from it -- but we do know a bit about hockey, and we're cautiously confident that one name on your puck is that of Ed Kastelic. He had three brief stints with Washington, in the 1985-86, '86-87, and '87-88 seasons, and later played a little for Hartford in the NHL. As a part-time goon -- er, "enforcer" -- we doubt his signature has much collector value and is therefore unlikely to be forged.
Working on the theory that it's a Kastelic signature and that the other name appears to be "Steve" or "Stan" something, the only Steve or Stan who played for the Caps during the years Kastelic was there was Steve Leach, and that looks to us like it's a possible reading of that autograph. Leach was only slightly less goonish -- er, "physical and aggressive" -- but he did have one pretty good season for Boston a couple of years later. Still not a high-value item in the collectibles marketplace, we'd say. But a nice artifact!

The football bank dates to the 1950's and was made by Moyer. They made football, baseball, and basketball player banks. Most you see are generic with no team represented and those that do have a letter on the chest it's often unclear as to what school or team it's actually supposed to be. The Michigan stickers make yours perfectly clear.
It has some paint chips but still displays pretty well. I'd say its worth in the $75-125 range. |
