Default 1895 Mayo's Cut Plug N300

Folks, cards from this set seem insanely hard to find, even in very poor condition. No surprise, given their age. Any advice on how to acquire cards at a fair market price? I see many on Dean's Cards, but they are all priced way over market value? Any suggestions?

Has anyone on the board come close to completing the set? Any other good information on the cards themselves? Here's one of only two that I've ever been able to acquire.

As 19th century cards go, this is a relatively easy set. It is one of the few 19th century sets that can be completed. Just be patient, the cards will come out.

They used to come up more frequently then they have the past few years. Acquiring one as a type isn’t that hard. The prices for some of the hall of famers have been very strong the past 18 months.

As Jay said, I think patience is the key. Like, decades of patience (unless you want to pay Dean's-level prices which are too high imo).

They are out there, but I think people are just keeping a lot of top shelf stuff right now because they are either concerned it will go up in price or they are concerned that they won't be able to find another card at anywhere near the price they paid for theirs. My (limited) experience chasing the N300 Hugh Duffy card was that it took a couple of years to find one that worked for me. But I did:

Interesting, thanks for the perspectives. I guess I’ll be patient and keep watching the auctions that come up.

Oh I love that VG Duffy, congrats Adam!

If everyone would boycott Dean's Cards, they might then lower the prices. Hint. Hint.

Try making a reasonable offer, might work.

With the spike in auctions hammer prices recently, at least certain cards, it’s hard to discern what is actual fair market value. Some sellers here seem to be anchoring to prices that may well be outliers.

I've seen more for sale here than anywhere else. Post "buying" on the B/S/T and you'll get some hits for sure.
