I don't know if anyone on my post in the pin thread, but I posted this recent pick-up there. The reason I'm posting here is to ask if anyone here knows (or thinks) these may be ASCOs. I've asked around and the Braves experts I know really had nothing to add. BMW currently has the Mathews listed on Ebay and I've seen a couple others (both Mathews). They are photos mounted to cardboard surrounded by a felt frame.

I do believe these are ASCO or Wincraft. I have not seen these before, but they look very similar and with the rarity of Wisconsin related photos pennants, it wouldn’t surprise me at all.

Never seen anything like these....

Could be ASCO's work; but, most of their photo pennants from the 1960s had their mark printed on the backs of their photos.

Interesting pieces!

Hey, just a heads-up to announce a new TSOG episode that focuses on 2 beautiful early teens pennants. Two of my favorites of all-time. Hope you'll view it and give it a "like" or subscribe, if you see fit.

Many thanks for looking...

Enjoyed it Mark. I may be mistaken, but is there a midsize version of this Cubs pennant? Seems I remember hearing about at one time.

One more question. If you've purchased a pennant that came with a bamboo cane what do you do with it? Is there any way to display a pennant on the cane?

Picked this one up this weekend. This is the first example of this particular pennant I've found that hadn't faded to gray.

Agreed. That Braves pennant looks to be in excellent condition. Great pickup.

Great pickup. Tough one, let alone in that condition. Very nice find!

I cannot understand the auction mentality of some people.

I was watching a pennant auction. Starting price was $9.00 and it’s probably a $30 pennant. With 3 days left in the auction, someone jumped the bid from $9 to $33. Why?

I can’t understand why people feel the need to bid so high with so many days left to go. Makes me crazy.

I kind of like when people do that because I get a feel of the demand before the last minute and I can adjust my final bids accordingly.

Sometimes, I'll even make a bid (not at my maximum) a few days before an auction ends to see who bites. If I see my bid is automatically outbid, then I know that someone has possibly put a high max bid. If I see two people outbid me in within an hour then I know that there are a number of keen bidders.

I think one theory is that a high early bid going into the close will drive out some of those who might otherwise get caught up in the last-minute frenzy and keep bidding past their original intention. Or perhaps they don't snipe and just want to put in their max bid early in case they forget about or don't want to have to remember to do any more bidding. And doesn't the jump mean there is an underbidder at about the same level, and if so how can it be seen as unreasonable? To me, it's always seemed the best approach to put in your max bid early and let it ride. If you're really intent on grabbing something, put in a big max bid. That's just me, however.

Does anyone know if pennant toploaders come in smaller sizes than 12 x 30? I have these Bazooka pennants that measure 5 x 14.

I've never seen a smaller size. I just cut down the larger ones to the smaller size. Kind of stinks because they aren't exactly cheap. I've also tried using rectangular toploaders, but those don't work as well for display as the pennant tip will eventually start to obey gravity.

I have cut them down as well, to fit these Bazooka sized pennants. No other option that I'm aware of, either in the form of rigid toploaders or soft sleeves.

Not ideal, but at least it's easy to do!

Here's a clip from Pawn Stars I just came across, that I thought was pretty cool. A good deal in my opinion... fair to both sides. The seller knew what he had, got a good price, and left a little room for Rick to make a profit as well.

One of the few Pawn Stars negotiations that actually made sense... no shorting the seller, and no myopic seller asking 10 times what his item is worth. Forward to the 2:01:30 mark, if you don't care to see all the other negotiations.

Hope you enjoy- here's the link...

Poster/photo toploaders cut to fit. A guillotine paper cutter cuts through like butter, and you can make these quickly and easily with a perfect edge. Use the existing rigid edge on the bottom and close with clear wrapping tape (better than “invisible” or “magic” tape) along the top edge.

11”x14” toploaders work great for most minis, two per, and less than $1 apiece if you buy a pack of 20. I needed 13”x19” for my set of Bazookas. Still it ends up costing little more than $1 each.

Regular sized holders trimmed down at the open end can work but these Bazookas aren’t quite proportional to the full-size, you’ll pay a bit more and they won’t quite have even spacing.

Beautiful. One of my bigger regrets was trading that one away, as it never surfaces. Awesome example!

It is amazing that some held their colors so well, while others became faded, toned or bleached out.

I know that direct sunlight and dust will do that. But I think a lot if it was also the different types of felt or cloth they used as well as the different grades of paint.

Grabbed a lot for a nice price off Facebook marketplace. 1960 Pirates with Clemente and the Senators has an original pin affixed to it.

Great stuff.... Some classic mid-century examples there for sure. I especially like the Stadium pennants. Nice score!

Great stuff, Mike!

If you’re new to pennants, you might not know the “ball” on the Cards and Indians pennants is actually the SS logo for Sports Specialties. They were a stadium concessionaire.

The Senators and Braves look to be trimmed at the tips. This is kind of a “no no” but can be overlooked (by some) if the price is right. Maybe they’re not trimmed; maybe it’s the camera angle…

I love how the border around the Pirates picture is a pirate hat and bandana.

I think those tips are just bent, and the downward angle causes the illusion of trimming. Have seen this many times, especially when buying on eBay.

When flattened out, the illusion goes away. I bet if he ironed them or even provided photos of the reverse sides, you'd see a whole different image without this distortion.

The extra cool thing about the Pirates is that all the graphics have a velvet like texture to them. Just like the Collegiate 3D pennants. It still cracks but it isn’t just “paint”. Trench seemed to do this on quite a few 1960-61 picture pennants and at least one logo pennant (Phillies w/cap and orbiting baseball).

Buyer Beware....

Not that anyone here would likely pony up the crazy asking price for this, but be warned that this is almost surely a reproduction pennant, and NOT original...

https://www.ebay.com/itm/14547875566...Bk9SR6aP8YqIYw

The spine and stitching are all wrong for this pennant and it should be oversized (not full sized). Note how the seller's measurements include the tassels. Likely made by Mitchell & Ness, and heavily/artificially aged and weathered to look old.

Stay away!

Interesting and seldom-seen manufacturer tag on this one. Has this company been discussed yet? If anyone knows about R. Worton, I guess it's probably Kyle...

Default Mini Pennant Protection

A bit off topic but still related to Pennants...

Are there toploaders for mini pennants?
Or do you guys cut the full size ones to size?

I have a few minis that I want to display with toploader and Im trying to figure out what to do...

I cut down larger pennant toploaders/sleeves for the mini pennants I have on display. Always feels like a bit if a waste, but it works.

So this recent sale on eBay is interesting. Has Keezer stamp on back. So it seems they were making these until at least 1972. These “late term” Keezers are identifiable by a simpler logo and the font/script. An Astros “astronaut” also sold which was pretty cool.

These late-term Keezers are identifiable from their earlier ones by the simpler logo and the same font/script.

Also interesting is that - to my knowledge - the trademarked Trench and ASCO Rangers pennants are thick, and very stiff, cardboard-like felt. It appears here that Keezer was still roughly the same quality as always.

(This led me to pull up Kyle’s incredible history of Keezer … very informative.)

That a great pennant....but I gotta say, the Keezer art department got a little lazy.

That's a cool pennant. The sellers description was *interesting*...saying the pennant was from the 50s. Anyone want to tell them the history of the Rangers?
