That "I was there" cert shows up pretty regularly on Ebay. I have never bought one, as there seem to be an awful lot of them, making me wonder if they have just been recently reproduced.

This is a pretty cool item. DuPont made a series of large cards (8x11) to give away at trade shows in the 1980's. Here is the Lou Brock card. Also in this "set" are Red Schoendienst, Willie Mays, Pete Rose, Harmon Killebrew, Gaylord Perry, Bob Feller, Stan Musial, and Bart Starr. There may be others.

1985 Hall of Fame cachet. Why they picked a Cub hat I don't know, unless it was to rub some salt in an old wound.

Arky Vaughn also went in, so it was kind of a mediocre year, as HOF'ers go.
And to call Wilhelm a Cardinal is a bit of a stretch. He went 1-4 in 40 games in 1957. |

1999 Stadium Give-Away Pin
My wife and I were recently cleaning out some of our old stuff from when we lived in St. Louis. I came across a box of various pins and cards from the Cardinals and when I saw Lou’s pin I remembered this thread – I don’t think this has been posted yet.
This was issued to fans to commemorate the unveiling of his statue in front of Busch Stadium. The Cardinals did a great job with these and whenever a new statue was unveiled they gave out a commemorative pin, which is attached to a card that describes the event. I believe there is a typo on Lou's card, but maybe I'm reading it wrong – the statue was unveiled in the 25th anniversary year (not 20th) of Lou's 1974 stolen-base record. |

Brad H - You are correct, I have the pin, have not posted it yet.
I was away for a week on vacation with limited WIFI (at http://montaukpark.com ) canoeing on the Current River in South Central Missouri (http://www.jadwincanoe.com ) Anyway - Here is the 85 HOF envelope along with Wilhelm. |

This is kind of interesting. Apparently Lou became an expert in pricing ball cards at some point, and has the price guide to prove it. I am not sure on the date, and would be interested to at some point find a copy of the price guide.

Here is a postmarked 1989 first day of issue envelope. Also pictured a ticket stub from 2009 with Lou featured on the stub. There are probably dozens of ticket stubs he is on, I've got a couple, it's too much work to try and find all the tickets.

These last few posts will feature all sorts of "odds and ends". There are hundreds of cards put out by the card manufacturers in the last 30 years, I don't really collect them, unless they look "Cool" or something.
I'm a sucker for flashy colors and cool designs. Here is an unknown as to date sew or iron on patch, plus the above mentioned Hunters meat stadium give away pin, a random Topps issue, and Sports Design card |

One of my favorite "Modern" cards, however "Modern" is defined (and the thread on that is interesting) is the 92 Action Packed card, as well as all the other cards in the set.

I think this is a cool modern set. Lots of big stars with recreations of their classic cards on sturdy stock...except that Lou got stuck in a Cub uniform. His face says it all Last edited by ALR-bishop; 07-17-2014 at 07:45 AM. |

Patch
Hi David -
I have a few of those patches - Lou, Reggie, Fisk, Seaver, etc... - I can't remember the company who made them, but I believe they were issued in 1978(ish) and were licensed by the MLBPA, but not by MLB (hence no logos). I think I read once that there are 100 players in the set. They can still be found relatively cheaply, usually $5-10 for stars, and less for the more common players. Hope that helps. |

Here are a few cards designed to replicate old Topps designs. The top right is kind of cool, I think it is a hand painted card. Bottom left is a Dover, bottom right Sports Design.

I just picked this up this week. It is the counter display piece for pocket schedules, missing the cardboard supporting arm on the back. In the bottom right you can see where the pocket schedules would have been. It is also the same artwork the Cardinals used on other items in 1975. it is 11x14

I picked up another one of these pins, mistakenly thinking it was larger than the one I had. It is not. However, it is flat and off color, while the other is more domed and brighter. So, I guess I just found a rare "variation". Once again, this is a reverse negative, the St. L on the cap is backward (Thanks to Randy for pointing that out a few months back. I would guess this pin is 1976 or 77.

Some more recent cards. I'm not going to show most of the modern stuff, I've got dozens of them, usually picked up in bulk lots off EBay or in dime/quarter boxes at shows. But these are kind of cool. The top middle is a Christian tract, there are several versions of them from different years.
