I thought the MB cards were a 1968 issue even though the FB cards are the 1967 design?

I don't know what they are called LOL! They are not mentioned in the Standard Catalog (I just checked). Included in the Milton Bradley "Win A Card" game were 1967 designed football cards, 1968 baseball cards, and 1968 Hot Rod cards (copied from a 1964 release).

Another card marked off 1952 Bowman Large #63 Charley Conerly SP, I need six more to complete my set! NM "book" price is $550 this one cost $81.44 shipped, but I purchased it during a recent 10% eBay bucks program. So I earned $7.88 eBay bucks, pushing my purchase price down to $73.56 or 13.3% book price.

Another great Hall of Famer SP, you are a collecting machine, Larry!

Progress made on the 1977 Topps Mexican Set this month in the much maligned category of CHECKLIST cards. Here's an uncut two card "strip" of Card #'s 204 & 256 (Bears) of the '77 Mexican set. I have not seen any cards from an uncut sheet in this set before, but can confirm those darn perforations ARE factory.

Thanks Ty! I don't know anything about that 1977 Topps Mexican set except what I am reading here in the Standard Catalog. Going by the "pricing" these must be pretty rare!

For me another hit 1952 Bowman Large #14 Paul Brown RC. FIVE more needed to complete my set. This was a "BattersBox" eBay pickup during the recent 10X eBay bucks promotion. Cost me $35.25 free shipping minus $3.52 eBay bucks total $31.73. The Standard Catalog NM "value" $250, so I am at 12.6% full book.

I just noticed the ink finger print on Paul Browns shirt. Thought it was kind of weird. Then I looked on eBay, and there are several others that have this finger-print, and some of the card do not?

Another 1952 Bowman Large arrived today. I need just four more cards for my set! Gino Marchetti NFL HOF 1972. Never played for the Redskins, but I guess the previous owner thought so (penciled in on the back). Cost after shipping and eBay bucks promotion $34.78 around 13.9% NM "book".
Hope everyone is doing great out there!

Slowly chipping away at my Sammy Baugh autographed run. I also picked his 48 Bowman and 52 Bowman (small)...both signed from a fellow board member. I just need to get some good scans. Also I haven't seen another 49 Leaf but plenty of the 48 Leafs, even though that's the only one I need to complete.

Finally I have something new to post! My shrinking want-list makes the hits few and far between, and my 10% threshold is thrown out the window! I just want to mark something off my list. These two '63 Fleer cards takes me down to just seven cards left!
#15 Don Maynard NM "book" is $40 I paid $13.20 shipped (33% book)
#64 SP Bob Dougherty NM "book" is $75 I paid $23.20 (31% book)

Thanks Jeff, I'm busy completing my 50s 60s 70s non-sports sets and having a ball with that (and not having to spend a fortune). I'm also working on another football project as well. Hope to meet you at the National this year!

Friday morning when I checked my email, I had notices from eBay that some of the cards I watch had new listings. Three of the four cards I need for my 1952 Bowman Large set had been added! When I checked the listings, all were from Deans Cards. And if you didn't know, this seller takes a lot of heat for listing very over-priced cards.

Months ago, I abandoned my attempt to get these cards at 10% book or less, and moved my threshold to 20% book price or less. Two of the three cards met this criteria, and the third was close enough for me! I checked and double checked my math, believe me!

Normally I would have watched these three cards, and then pulled the trigger when I got an eBay bucks promotion. Not for these cards, I bought them then and there! I need just one more card to complete my 1952 Bowman Large set, #29 Hugh McElhenny RC ("books" NM $250)

First up #99 Joe Stydahar RC and SP. The Standard Catalog NM "value" is $950 and the Buy It Now price $165 or 17.3% book.

Next card #108 Hubert Johnson RC "value" $750 NM BIN price $200 or 26.6% book.

Now #135 Gene Ronzani RC and SP "books" $900 NM and the BIN price was $150 or 16.6% book.

I purchased these cards Friday, and they attempted to deliver yesterday (Monday) but I was not home to sign for them. I picked them up just now from the US Post Office. Cards were shipped for free. Total spent (on these little pieces of worthless cardboard) $515 compared to NM "value" $2,600 is 19.8%.

Those are three REALLY tough cards, Larry, so congrats for snagging them. People underestimate how difficult the super SPs are in this set.

Good job.

I'm probably about half way through - I have this guy in the house

so that's one big ticket item taken care of. I have two Tosi so I may just get one graded

And, it seems odd to me, I'm having trouble with a nice graded Kostka.

I just picked up football cards on a whim. I'm a baseball guy but I felt I got a great deal and it's sparked my interest.

Please forgive the photos.

Hello,

Picked up this large (15+ inches in length) original photograph of Wilbur Francis "Pete" Henry, inaugural member of the College Football Hall of Fame AND Pro Football Hall of Fame. The frame looks to be from 1920s. I removed the backing to see if it was signed by Henry on the reverse (it isn't).

This photo isn't really in my wheelhouse. I collect pre-1900 Ivy League Football photographs. Send me a PM if this piece fits into your collection. I'm always game for swapping.

Cheers

Mark

Default 1948 Leaf Sammy Baugh

I don't normally buy cards in raw form due to the unknown but I took a chance on this Baugh. I already have a full run from his playing days but this Leaf was so odd I had to get it. I sent it off to SGC but wasn't too thrilled with the grade. I was happy that it was an authentic card but with the card in hand, it was in great shape with great centering and decent corners. Besides its off registration, there were no creases and the back was bold. So I'm not sure why it was a 20 but I'm happy for it to be encased by SGC.

Good news at the mailbox today, as the last needed card for my 1952 Bowman Large football set arrived!
#29 Hugh McElhenny RC "books" for $250 in NM condition. This eBay listing was BIN $29.95 or best offer. So I offered $24 and the seller accepted. Then I bought nine other '52 Large cards to upgrade or restock my doubles box, and the seller shipped all my stuff for three bucks!
Pro and College HOF member, Hugh is related to the Mcllhenny family from Louisiana, the makers of Tabasco Sauce.

I DID IT!

Picked up these RCs of Pats greats from N54 member NewEnglandbaseballist:

More on the Nance card in the next couple of days.

In the meantime, I'm dying to add a beater copy of Buoniconti's 63 Fleer RC. Anybody got one?

Congratulations, that is a great accomplishment. I've just started this project and it seems like it's going to take me awhile, those sp's are going to be brutal for me I think. But that's what makes it fun, I've really enjoyed your posts of your pick ups and I think your posts may have been an inspiration to me to start on the set myself. Thanks for sharing your journey.

Haven't posted here in a while, but I've picked up a few things recently, so I figured I'd share. Very pleased to finally add these mid-grade Baughs to my collection:

1952 Bowman Small #16 Frank Gifford RC arrived yesterday via eBay purchase. Leaves me needing just one more card to complete my set (#48 George Halas RC). I looked for both of these cards at the National, and I saw plenty of them. But they were all priced above what I could get the card on eBay.
This card was a BIN $79 with free shipping. Bought it during a 10% eBay bucks promotion, so it cost $71.10 or 21.8% NM "book" price of $325. The card WAS in an SGC holder SGC40 VG 3 until I cracked it out so it would fit in the cardboard box lol.

Thanks, guys. I am enjoying what I am collecting now more than I have in a long time. Football has been a good move for me. So much good stuff and most of it is relatively affordable.

+1000!

You're gonna have to change your Net54 UID if you keep this up, Robert!

Jeff, I actually thought of that very thing. I have been a Net54 member with this name a little over 4 1/2 years. It isn't like I know that many other people on Net54 or even post a lot, but it would feel like starting over to switch. I would be like the member formerly known as....

If I had known then I would go the football route, I probably wouldn't have selected such a baseball oriented UID. I may just end up being "that guy with the baseball name" on the football board.

1952 Bowman small #48 George Halas RC completes my set! The Standard Catalog places the NM "value" at $200, and my eBay auction bid of $33.46 (shipped free) won the card for me at 16.73% of "book". Looking at eBay past sales of this card, it looks like I did ok, and I'm glad to put this set to rest!

Congrats Larry! Seems like every week you finish up another tough set.

You are really rolling.
