I'm really enjoying this thread. I've been lurking for a while but I guess I will participate. Here is the Oakland A's dugout lineup card from Ken Griffey Jr's MLB debut. He recorded his 1st career hit in this game when he hit a double in his 1st at-bat. I forgot to mention that this was also Omar Vizquel's MLB debut.
I mostly collect game worn jerseys so I'm not as knowledgeable about lineup cards. Jeff, any idea what something like this is worth? Last edited by shermdawurm; 10-21-2022 at 08:04 AM. |

2000 World Series (Subway Series) game 3. Was the Mets only win of the series.
I had never seen a lineup card that looked like this before and bought it a few years back based on instinct. A little while ago a buddy (and member here) who is writing a book on lineup cards was in touch with the Hall-of-Fame about lineup cards that they have, and they had one of the other games from the series in the identical format/style, which validated my assumption. |

Thanks! I believe the only exact lineup match is May 19, 1959. The game was a 6-3 loss to the Tigers. Mantle and Berra each had a hit and Norm Siebern homered.

The one game managerial career of Elrod Hendricks was on May 18, but he signed this card the next day when Frank Robinson is credited with being the manager.
The last of the 8 games that Duffy Dyer managed, and his only one with the A's, also the first career win for Jose Bautista. Last edited by doug.goodman; 02-02-2023 at 11:06 PM. |

I checked the Orioles '89 Media Guide and saw that Elrod twice substituted for Frank that season...4 games from May 18-20 (where yours fits in) and again from July 15-28. In June 1985, after Joe Altobelli was dismissed and Earl was re-hired, Cal Ripken Sr. was "interim" manager for one game (which he was credited for) while Earl made his way north to meet the club. So this was technically Sr.'s MLB managerial debut: |

Your Orioles lineup card collection is super impressive! How many do you have? Did you mostly pick these up one at a time, or acquire a large collection at some point? |

Coming from you that's high praise! I probably have 100 or so and I've been mainly collecting them one at a time (shows, SCD, eBay, auctions, etc.) for the past 30 plus years..... I realize this isn't a lineup card per se (but is somewhat related), so with the Super Bowl over & Patrick Mahomes being named the MVP, I thought I'd share this... Back in '94 as Cal Ripken Jr. was approaching his 2000th consecutive games (which would make him only the 2nd player in MLB history to do so), I wrote a letter to Tom Mee, who was the Official Scorer of the Twins and asked him if he could please send me the Press Box Notes from the game. Not only did he send me the notes BUT he also included his original scoresheets from the game (which I was thrilled to receive). The starting pitcher for the Twins that night was one Pat Mahomes, who pitched a strong eight innings in a losing cause... I later professionally matted/framed the score sheets with an original picture from the Minneapolis Star Review, a signed game ticket & an original AP teletype of the event: Last edited by roarfrom34; 02-14-2023 at 11:06 AM. |

Being able to find so many Orioles ones, including so many significant games, is remarkable! I've been lucky enough to find some significant lineup cards, but that is in part because I'm not particular, and pretty much am interested in any significant lineup card. If my focus was one team or one player, my collection would be tiny. |

Those lineup cards are fantastic! Here is the Twins dugout lineup card (signed/inscribed) from Cal's 3000th Career Hit in 2000. Not only was it a significant game in his career, but it holds a lot of personal memories for me as well (since I was there). In April when most of my buddies were planning trips to Hilton Head and the like, I was planning a trip to Minneapolis on the CHANCE that I'd see Cal get the milestone hit (going into the series, he was four hits shy). Friday night he got a hit and for the Saturday game he needed three hits because unbeknownst to me, he wasn't playing Sunday b/c the Orioles would have preferred he got it at home (which due to a work commitment I was unable to attend). The baseball gods must have been looking down at me since after making an out in his first AB, he got the three hits he needed in the next three AB's: Last edited by roarfrom34; 02-18-2023 at 11:18 AM. |

My 1st lineup card June 12th 1980 lineup card signed by Dick Williams, Expos win 9-1 to remain in 1st place a game and a half over the Pittsburgh Pirates, Most importantly in this game is that 24 year old Charlie Lea in his MLB Debut pitches 8 strong innings giving up 8 hits and 1 earn run to pickup his 1st career win, less then a year later on May 10th 1981 Charlie would electrify Expos fans by throwing the 1st no-hitter at Olympic Stadium in Montreal

Sal the Barber Maglie 1956 No-hitter
Maglie came over from the dark side (the NY Giants), and was a major factor in the Brooklyn Dodgers winning the pennant in 1956. In the radio recap of the no-hitter, Vin Scully made it perfectly clear that Maglie had “repaid all the grief and all the sorrow he has brought to the Brooklyn borough.”
Quite a line-up that day for the Dodgers, with 5 HOF'ers, plus Gilliam, Furillo, and Amoros (the hero of game 7 of the 1955 WS), plus Maglie. Jeff, the scrapbook paper came off the backs (grudgingly), just leaving some discoloring from the glue. I was a little worried I would lose the printed ground rules on the back of the Dodgers card, but it came out pretty well. Much better, thanks for the tips. Rick Fronts reduced.jpg Backs reduced.jpg

Hi Mark:
Nice lineup card (that's Earl handwriting for sure). I think it's from '72 as well and what I would do would be to go to baseball reference & look at the box scores of Cuellar's game logs that season & check out the lineups (and substitutions) for each one to find the match..... If you need help, lmk! Bill Last edited by roarfrom34; 05-24-2023 at 02:28 PM. |

Thanks! It's been really quiet for some time as far as new pickups, but excited about this one, and just acquired a collection of 150 lineup cards from the mid 80's (most from 1984), and spent the weekend sorting through and researching and found a few cool ones.

Picked up a collection of 150 lineup cards that were from Eric Gregg and it had this gem.
Orel Hershiser's MLB debut. Personally, I think Hershiser deserves more consideration for the Hall. He's obviously a borderline candidate, but 200+ wins, Cy Young, great Playoff pitcher (win the MVP of the NLCS and WS in 1988, was 8-3 for his career in the Playoffs and that was only because he was 0-2 in the 1997 WS). Throw in his record-setting scoreless streak, and I think he's a candidate worthy of more consideration. Edit: No idea why the photo is sideways. Hershiser came in in relief and it is his name in black under Honeycutt. Last edited by Topnotchsy; 07-13-2023 at 09:59 PM. |

For reasons not obvious to me, Yankee lineup cards from their most recent dynasty are exceedingly difficult to find. It seems clear that the lineup cards that Joe Torre from when he was a Yankee have not entered the market. Whether that is because he would toss them or because he still has them (or has given them to someone who does), they have been extremely difficult, and almost all the ones I have were from John Hirschbeck's personal collection. Enjoy the lineup card. Jeter's 10th career run, and one of the first games of his career in his ROY season, and of course, the first Yankee WS win in a long time. |

This lineup card style is pretty uncommon to see. From what I have seen over the years, I don't think many teams bothered with a lineup card for the official scorer, although the Padres were not the only one (the Orioles actually had a lineup card carbon pad with 4 sheets vs what most teams had with 3 for a period of time) with the back copy for the official scorer.
IMO Gaylord Perry is one of the most underrated pitchers in baseball history. Here is the game where he passed Bob Feller to move into 2nd all-time in K's. He would subsequently be by quite a few including Nolan Ryan, Steve Carlton, Randy Johnson etc but pitching in an era where K's were far less common, Perry was dominant. |

To the best of my knowledge, no lineup cards exist from the Negro Leagues. I don't know if they did not use lineup cards the way the American & National Leagues did, or if they simply were not saved. Whatever the case is, I have been collecting lineup cards for many years and have never seen even a photo of one.
Because of this, I have pretty much given up hope of ever getting a lineup card from player's who played in the Negro Leagues, outside of those who spent time in the Majors. (I have lineup cards with Aaron, Mays, Campanella, Robinson, Newcombe, Banks etc, but assumed that most others were off limits). Over the years though, I have occasionally been able to find lineup cards from the Pacific Coast League (PCL) and in a number of cases they featured former Negro League Players. Some (like Minnie Minoso) later played in the Majors, but others did not. Recently I was able to acquire this September 8, 1951 lineup card from the Minneapolis Millers. While the card does not feature Willie Mays, who played for the team, but was already with the NY Giants, it does include Negro League HOF Ray Dandridge, who had 3 hits in the game, and former Negro League Champion NY Cuban Dave Barnhill. |

40 years ago today the Pinetar Game between the Royals & Yankees was concluded after A.L. President Lee MacPhail overruled the earlier ruling by the umpires that George Brett was out for using an illegal bat...
The Royals had to fly out to NY on an off day to finish the last four outs...Here is the Royals dugout lineup card signed by members of both teams: In full disclosure this isn't part of my collection but rather belongs to one of the game's participants who shared it with me. |

I've seen a picture of this and have mixed feelings about the autographs, which to me obscure the lineup card itself. I'm a fan of getting a single signature or a couple of signatures for something significant that displays well, but think that it can be overkill to get it signed like this, especially since it's impossible to get people to sign neatly and uniformly. |

Cool item. But I’m with Jeff, would much rather have the lineup card pure, and no autographs, save maybe for Brett. I was around 9 and watched the game at my grandmothers. Very memorable.

1967 American League Pennant Race
The Chicago White Sox hosted the Detroit Tigers for a Sunday doubleheader on September 10, 1967. Both teams were involved in a wild, four-team chase for the A. L. pennant.
The first game, Tiger manager Mayo Smith penciled in a formidable lineup including future HOFers Al Kaline and Eddie Mathews as well as Norm Cash, Jim Northrup, Willie Horton, Dick McAuliffe and Bill Freehan to face Chisox pitcher Joel Horlen. Chicago's pennant hopes had been greatly diminished the day before during the TV Game of the Week, with Detroit overcoming a 3-0 deficit, scoring seven times in the ninth inning deflating the Sox 7-3. Chicago came back from the dead the next day, shutting out the Tigers in both games of the twin bill. Joel Horlen tossed a no-hitter in the first game.
