Thanx gonzo Your scan of Devlin was not in your post when I started replying to you. Your Devlin is the first T205 vertically mis-cut card that I have seen. Really neat. Whereas, there are many, many such T206's cards. Perhaps, by 1911, American Lithographic's Quality Assurance department had greatly improved. TED Z T206 Reference . |

Doolan
Here's Doolan, and a quick word on the T205 Donohue White Sox card. It is a tribute card. As the back mentions, he was the Galveston Sand Crabs manager in 1911. His last full season with the Sox was 1908. In 1909, he played 2 games for them.

Elberfeld
Kid Elberfeld had a career OBP of .355 across 14 MLB seasons. His fiery temper involved him in numerous ferocious arguments and assaults on umpires.
During Ty Cobb's rookie season, Cobb slid headfirst into second base, only to have Elberfeld dig his knee into the back of Cobb's neck, grinding his face in the dirt. It was the last time Cobb slid headfirst; from then on Cobb slid spikes first. https://www.net54baseball.com/attach...1&d=1595189750 https://www.net54baseball.com/attach...1&d=1595189778 https://www.net54baseball.com/attach...1&d=1595189792 https://www.net54baseball.com/attach...1&d=1595189804 https://www.net54baseball.com/attach...1&d=1595189882 https://www.net54baseball.com/attach...1&d=1595189891 |

Here is an American Beauty Evans.
He led the NL in being hit by pitched balls each year from 1910 to 1912, setting a single-season record of 31 in 1910 that stood for 61 years before it was finally broken by Ron Hunt. He also set the record for being hit by a pitch in a single game, being hit three times in a game against Brooklyn. Next up is Johnny Evers Sent from my SM-N950U using Tapatalk |

Ford - black cap variation w/Sweet Cap back
Wonder what a rookie card of a Yankees pitcher would sell for in todays market after a rookie season with these pitching statistics...26-6 won-loss record with 209 strikeouts and an ERA of 1.65 with 29 complete games and 8 shutouts...and if there was a variation! Lol...Wonder what Mr. Ford's sold for in 1911? Sent from my SM-N950U using Tapatalk |

Dolly Gray No Stats
By the time he reached 30, "Dolly" Gray had already produced an excellent career in the PCL -- so excellent that he is a member of the Pacific Coast League Hall of Fame. Then, in 1909 he joined Washington in the American League.
His MLB performance was less than excellent, producing a 15-51 career record. And most of the noteworthy accomplishments were negative -- he holds a record for walking eight batters in one inning, including seven in a row. But in April 1911, as Washington opened what would come to be known as Griffith Stadium (and cigarettes came with brightly-colored, gold-bordered baseball cards), Gray got the start against Smoky Joe Wood. Gray would win the game, a high-point in his otherwise disappointing 2-13 final MLB season. https://www.net54baseball.com/attach...1&d=1595330374 https://www.net54baseball.com/attach...1&d=1595330380 Last edited by GeoPoto; 07-21-2020 at 05:23 AM. |

Bob Groom -- Shoots and Ladders
Bob Groom's otherwise mundane career (288 starts over ten years, 119-150 record), had spectacular high and low points.
Right off the bat, Groom nose-dived to record low territory: in 1909, as an MLB rookie (after five seasons in the PCL), he laid a huge egg -- 19 consecutive losses, a record which has only been equaled once. But, he continued to pitch, eventually won a few and then, in 1917 while pitching for the St. Louis Browns, Groom soared to exceptional height: he no-hit the eventual World Champion Chicago White Sox 3–0. And, the no-hitter came in the second game of a double-header. Earlier, Groom had preserved the win in the first game by pitching the last two innings without allowing a hit. Groom's no-hitter also came the day after teammate Ernie Koob's 1–0 no-hitter against the White Sox. Koob and Groom are still the only teammates to pitch no-hitters on consecutive days. https://www.net54baseball.com/attach...1&d=1595406594 https://www.net54baseball.com/attach...1&d=1595406606 https://www.net54baseball.com/attach...1&d=1595406617 https://www.net54baseball.com/attach...1&d=1595406627 https://www.net54baseball.com/attach...1&d=1595406635 https://www.net54baseball.com/attach...1&d=1595406646 |
