Default J.M. Magrinat and Valentin Gonzalez

Rolando, thank you for posting the cards of Jose Maria (Kiko) Magriñat and Valentin (Sirique) Gonzalez. Both are members of the Cuban Baseball Hall of Fame and besides being long time Cuban League umpires they also played ball. Magriñat participated in the Cuban Leagues from 1897 to 1914 and he also played in the Negro Leagues with the Cuban Stars of Havana from 1907 to 1916 (see photo below from 1913). Valentin Gonzalez played in the Cuban Leagues from 1890 to 1911. He was also one of the first Cubans to come to the United States to play organized ball. He was with the 1905 and 1906 Jacksonville Jays of the South Atlantic League. Below is his Punch card from my PC.

Default Oms

Al, what a beautiful postcard. He is also one of my favorites. He should be in the National Hall of Fame. From 1917 to 1946 he would play baseball in the United States, Cuba, Venezuela and the Dominican Republic. He had a combined career .340 batting average. I first learned about Cuban Baseball cards from an owner of an Antiquarian bookstore in Miami. He spoke fondly about Cuban baseball and taught me a lot about its history and great players. He spoke most fondly about Alejandro Oms, or "El Caballero," like he was known in Cuba. What more can you say about a ballplayer nickname was "The Gentleman" because of his character and integrity.

Default 1948-49 Caramelos El Indio Monte Irvin

Wanted to share the only Cuban card currently in my collection. I got it graded at the National this year. Excited to share it is the highest graded El Indio ever graded by PSA. There is only one other in the whole set graded a 2.

I am super happy to own this amazing card Caramelos El Indio of Monte Irvin.

Leon, thats a very cool postcard. Looks like the runner is from the Mexico City Red Devils. Any idea what they were doing in Cuba?

Default Mexican League

Leon, your postcard pictures a Mexican League game between the Monterey and Mexico City teams. This was an important and pivotal moment in baseball history. To read more about it: https://www.baseball-almanac.com/leg...n_League.shtml

This also affected the Negro Leagues, with many players jumping ship to play in Mexico, including Ray Dandridge. In Cuba in 1946 baseball executives had to create two separate
winter leagues. The first was the traditional league (Almendares, Habana, Cienfuegos and Marianao) featuring players that did not play in Mexico and feared the wrath of the commissioner of baseball. The second league included those players that played in Mexico and those not under contracts with major League teams. To illustrate this here are Ray Dandridge's 1945 Mexican League card, his 1945-46 Caramelo Deportivo picturing him with the Marianao team and his 1946-47 Caramelo Deportivo with the second league Oriente team.

I agree, that Babe Ruth with Baby Snookums is something special. I believe the exact same photo was used on a postcard in the US.
