between my T200 Pitts SGC 60 (the pride of my pre-war tobacco collection because of subject + condition)
and
my newly acquired 1940 Hughes Frozen Confections Gene Handley (family + it's one of those wicked scarce Gotta-buy-it-if-it-ever-shows-up!)

Peter's T204 Walter Johnson is one magnificent card. I can't imagine one nicer, although SGC has graded a 96!

A very tough card only 13 graded by SGC in any grade.

Wow Peter! That one is nicer than the one you used to have!

Does anyone know if the SGC 96 example was cut from a sheet? I seem to remember that they graded an entire group that was cut from a sheet years ago, but my memory c ould be playing tricks on me. This would have been during the previous SGC regime.

Probably,

They were sold in Mastro circa 2001 give or take a year. It was a partial sheet that Frank Nagy owned and was cut "professionally" and SGC graded them. There are still a few in holders and some raw floating around. They are usually identifiable and SGC will no longer grade them anything except Authentic. I have a couple of them.

Nice card Peter! I remember seeing a PSA 8 T204 Johnson on display by PSA at one of the National's in the 90's.

Scott B., that T206 Wagner sure looks like this one, that sold in a PSA 2 holder in a Memory Lane auction I think in December 2006. How did that end up in an SGC holder?

Jim, the SGC 96 Johnson was cut from the sheet or partial sheet ( wish I could find out for sure) I have a Plank that came from that sheet. I bought it raw and about 2 years ago had SGC put it in an authentic holder - nice fat borders.

David: LOVE that Wagner! Many thanks for the Matty to round out my set in 2008. This is one of my best for 2008 (BTW your Wagner would look very nice sitting next this Cobb one day).

You are correct, Dennis. Send that Cobbie my way whenever you're ready. happy.gif
All kidding aside, that is one gobsmacker of a baseball card. I am happy to have had a small hand in improving that awesome M110 collection you have put together (although after I met you in Chicago and saw what a nice guy you are I must apologize for costing you a few extra bucks on the Cobb).
