I'd say that since the advent of ebay, 3rd party grading and so many consignment auction houses his profile in the hobby has collapsed. His market niche as a wholesale buyer and reseller just isn't needed. |

I did business with Alan on a regular basis back in the 1980's, but haven't talked to him since I got back in the hobby a couple of years ago. I always thought he was a hustler to be sure, but not a scammer. I remember once I agreed on the phone to buy a T206 Cobb card from him, and sent him a check. Later I received a refund in the mail, with an explanation that he had discovered a flaw in the card that he knew I wouldn't be happy with. When I called to get more details, he said that he had bought some T206's that he determined had been micro-trimmed, and he couldn't in good conscience sell altered cards to anyone else. He was not happy about it at all. |
