I have to sadly agree! JC won that fair and square and I placed a snipe that I thought would take it. Damn I hate when things are right and nice. I can't even get mad at him for this one. bummer! It was a heck of a rush on that auction and I enjoyed every second of it!!! Touche JC, you got me on that one. Dan.

Dan, very impressive. I don't think I've ever seen the W590 before. Is it particularly tough within the set?

How 'bout another shot of that m101-6 Big Train that I completely botched my bidding on a few years ago? I never grow tired of that one. I think my scan is on a computer that got stolen or is in some other place I cannot find.

Can I ask how long ago you picked up the Darby Chocs, if it was privately or in an auction, and how many are known?

Mouth hanging open.

Daniel

Ps. Have you just been waiting, saving up this comet for a w.johnson thread, to go POW!?
If so, what a wonderful sense of patience theatre and timing!!!!!

That's funny stuff Dan.. Just getting caught up on the reading here. Dan, you have pounded me on items as well in the past.. I do not think I'm a nut-case for type cards .. But then again, It takes one to know one!!!! You know, you and I come out of the same mold which they broke years ago. I have to admit that you have the BEST Walter Johnson collection in the world. Those were amazing cards. By the way, you won the last encounter on the Baltimore News card.....

JC

Yes the W590 is a toughie. The Darby was purchased in a Mastro lot with 6 other Darby Chocolates. All were the only ones known of each player, 2 were restored the Cobb and M. Brown I believe. Joe in New York bought most of the others from me and I sold the Brown on ebay. Dan

A beautiful assembly of cards, Dan. Thanks for showing them.

One of the best aspects for me is that not a one is in a slab!!! Beautiful. Wonderful to see that there are still card collectors out there amongst the folks who're "investing" in slabs.

Thanks! Frank.

Great post Frank, but the investor slab cult members didn't see it.
