Robert- to complete the crimson trifecta of Mack-Vaughn and Coombs, the 3 toughest, there is a great creaseless red Coombs floating around somewhere between New York and Arkansas thanks to our friends at the postal service who managed to lose a very tough card |

when you will NOT sell them! Don't need the Chance however. But, I would LOVE to have it for an upgrade! Also, I believe BCD was the "astute" one when he purchased all those nice NM/MT caramels for $100 each years back!!!!!!! |

Been fascinated about the E98 Mack discussion, although you would think he would take his trousers down before sitting on the thunder box (perhaps that is his starting A's lineup he is pondering while attending to his business). Anyhow, is there definite data around about the relative difficulty of the colored backgrounds, or is it purely subjective collecting experience for those folks who collect the set. And I guess the same kind of color background relativity could be true for the E94's. I know I am breaching protocal here but I do have a an E98 Bresnahn red backgound PSA 7 that I could be persuaded to part with for all the gold in Ft Knox |

John- the prevailing consensus was always that the red background cards were hardest to find in the E98 set. Oranges seem to pop up all the time and blues were fairly common with green a little bit tougher. Now some of my E98 collecting friends seem to believe that maybe the greens are as tough as the reds. I still believe the red ones are the toughest based on a large number that I have owned or examined over the years. |

I pulled recent sales of E90-1 cards off ebay and selected only for slabbed cards, plus a few HOFers raw. Here is what I found: |

Adam- although you didn't list them, I have seen a couple of Grahams, Walshs and Stahls in slabbed condition, low to mid grade going for big bucks lately as those cards seem to be back in favor as scarce cards to have from the E-90-1 set. I think all were in auctions other than ebay except 1 Graham. |

I sold a PSA 1 E90-1 Jackson a few months back (really worn) for $2600 and an E92 Dockman Matty that I sent to GAI and it graded a 3. That was the second E90-1 Jackson I have owned since I began collecting vintage cards (the other was GD), and I wish I still had BOTH of them back!!!! |

By the number of responses , it seems people tend to hold onto the E90-1 Jackson or the card must be pretty rare . Am I right in estimating that the Dockman Matty is worth close to $2k ? |

I'm still choking that an E101 Boss Schmidt PSA 2 went for $127.50 today. The E101 David Shean PSA 3 grabbed $160.58. Either people are getting really desperate or there's some funny business going on. |

Like I told you when I was bidding on the E102 and E101 Dooins - I like the backgrounds in those (and was outbid) - I certainly was not shilling. These caramels are simply hot. My first Croft's Cocoa I purchased last year was an SGC 40 Zimmerman for $90. The last Croft's Cocoa I have seen sold was a GAI 2 O'Hara in the 19th Century auction for $450!!!!!! |

I just wanted the prices to go up a little to get some to show up "out of the woodwork" so to speak, so I might buy some I need for my set. I didn't mean to hype them up to where people were outbidding me by two or three bid increments! |

scott, as you know i am willing to overpay for the cocoa's but even i have to draw the line at 500 for a low grade common with severe back damage. what do you think that puts my matty at 5000? all i want is for lemke to finally stop listing cocoa's less then dockmans. |

$250-$400 - depending on bidding (for graded examples - SGC GAI PSA). The tougher poses/players will fetch more. Also, if two people want/need the card or need it for an upgrade, it is hard to tell! |

But it makes sense given how expensive a better condition copy of the card is likely to be. There are sets where people will pay what it takes to get any cards (like E107), and then there are cards where people will get in on a low grade specimen of a card that sells well into five or even six figures. It really isn't any different than paying $250 for a fair condition E92 Young, other than size of purchase. A lot of people will satisfy themselves paying 5%-10% of the high grade price for low grade. |

I guess you do not follow prices on this card. That happens to be an excessive amount for that card in that grade/condition. Six months ago, solid VG examples did not sell for THAT much more. There was one VG example that sold for 8K or close to that a year ago. |
