Default Posting Pictures WAY Too Large on the Forum

+2 for using the Tapatalk app to post photos. I prefer the view of the regular internet based site for reading/scrolling, but use the app when I want to post a photo (from my phone). I have never resized a photo, and they seem to post in an appropriate size (either the size of the photo below, or slightly larger, you can choose "small" or "medium" when posting). If anyone needs help with how to post photos through the app, feel free to send me a PM. I’d be happy to show you how to do it.

Actually I disagree. Who in hell ever promised you things had to be easy? Every forum is different; each has its own idiosyncracies. So if you're going to post somewhere, adapt. And making sure the pictures one posts aren't too big to mess up the formatting of a page isn't nuclear physics. A reasonably intelligent man shouldn't find that overly challenging.

Guilty. On my screen the image looks fine. Until the picture is loaded to the site, I don't see the acres of white space. I am not quite sure how to eliminate the white space. Resizing will likely shift the image out of frame, but I will try.

Nonsense! You called him an entitled jerk for two reasons:

1. You and he have a long history of unpleasant exchanges.

2. And you've shown yourself to be just as much of a jerk yourself.

Irrelevant! That's not the point and you know it. You could have disagreed the same way I did but you opted to be a jerk instead.

I don't do social media. Therefore, this site is not social media.
I actually agree with Fox here. Sure, you can use a sweeping definition that would include forums such as this one, but anyone with sense also knows the difference. This ain't Facebook. It's not a platform. It's a chat board.

Oh the irony!

You are literally doing the exact same thing I did. Snowman was being a jerk, so I called him on it. You thought I was a jerk to him, so you call me on it. Do you think you were any more tactful than me? LOL

It's a platform. Somewhat different in style to facebook, but serves an identical puprose. Pretend the difference is meaningful if it makes you feel better, but this site is for social networking. Period.

I didn't turn anything into a flame war. Snowman insulted Leon. And you requested someone convince you this is a social media site. I took the bait because you promised to leave if it is. I knew you'd renege.

No likes. No followers. No universal membership. No official communications from governments and elected officials, no drivel from celebrities and others pointlessly documenting their every move and thought. Small number of people discussing a specific, narrow area of interest. Different enough for me.

I suppose if you narrow the definition of anything enough, it would lose all applications. Facebook is one type of social media networking. But that doesn't make it the only type.

Or if you expand it enough, it will embrace everything and lose all distinctions.

I think a chat board distinguishes itself enough to not be considered a social media platform. Just because it shares an online existence where people argue...I mean communicate...those who use SM would find a chat board incredibly limited and limiting.

Except I didn't expand anything. I literally posted the definition from the dictionary.

We aren't just making up the definition of words here.

Here is a hopefully nice size pic of the GOAT of powerlifting and myself to be kinda on topic.

Now to the off topic subject of social media. Right or wrong I have always considered this forum and the 2 others I am a member of social media.

"The" dictionary, like there is only one. I am sure given ten minutes I could find sites drawing distinctions between chatboards and social media platforms. Anyway, it's all good.

To be fair, I posted a link to every definition search result, not just one single dictionary. But every dictionary essentially mirrors the others. Sure, you can find sites drawing distinctions. But will those come with the legitimacy of Miriam-Webster's or Oxford? I'm comfortable choosing the defintion of any established and reputable dictionary.

But yeah, it's all good. The whole point was as a joke response to BalticFox when he claimed he would leave if this was a social media site. I just posted a link to the definitions with a winky face emoji.

this forum is so much better than social media. I honestly wish we could go back to the good old days of internet forums. Sure, we joke around(like asking Travis why hes always so upset even thought I do like his knowledge) and have the occasional spat, I actually learn a ton from everyone here.

On social media like Facebook or Twitter, it just feels like people are constantly getting fired up or toxic. It’s all about arguing and trying to one-up each other instead of having real conversations or learning anything useful. This place is a whole different vibe, and I love it.

Fine, but if Fox sticks around, you will have failed in your mission.

Whether anyone here likes it or not, OhioLawyer is correct in saying online forums like this one are considered "social media". You can debate it, but it is a fact that online forums fall under the umbrella of social media.

I don't necessarily like it either, as I also am not a fan of social media like FB, IG, or TikTok, but I participate on a lot of forums and therefore I socialize on social media. Everyone that posts here is doing the same.

Related to the original topic -- thanks for the heads up, Leon, I didn't realize it was such a pain and will be sure to resize all images in the future when posting from an external image hosting site.

No, it's not a "fact." It's a matter of how people think about it.

Someone misusing a word doesn't render a fact false. Until the defintion changes, it's a fact. Find a reputable dictionary with a different defintion instead of a random blogger to support your position. Lexicon is always changing, so common misuse can result in a defintion modification. But that hasn't happened. The definition of social media is what it is. And currently, it includes online message boards like this one. So currently, it is a fact.

Of course, the word "literally" was misused so much the dictionary now includes "figuratively" as an alternate definition. So maybe one day you might be right, and your personal definition might become accepted.

From "generative AI."

While both involve online interactions, "social media" refers to a broader range of platforms where users share content, connect with others based on personal relationships, and often have a wider range of features like posting updates, photos, and videos, whereas an "online forum" is a dedicated space for focused discussions on specific topics, usually with a thread-based structure where users post messages to engage in deeper conversations around a particular subject matter; essentially, social media is about connecting with people, while forums are about discussing ideas in depth within a niche area.
Key Differences:
Focus:
Social media prioritizes personal connections and sharing updates across a network, while online forums prioritize in-depth discussions around a specific topic or interest area.
Content Type:
Social media often features a mix of short text updates, images, videos, and links, while forums primarily consist of text-based posts within threads focused on a specific topic.
Community Structure:
Social media platforms often have a "follower" system where users see content from people they follow, while forums typically have a more open discussion where anyone can participate on a given topic.
Examples:
Social Media: Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, TikTok
Online Forums: Reddit (for specific subreddits), specialized forums for tech communities, gaming forums

This is most definitely your opinion and forums absolutely do not fall under social media for all users.

This is what AI gave me:
Yes, forums can be considered a form of social media, as they are online platforms where people can interact, share information, and engage in discussions with others, although they are often more specialized and focused on specific topics compared to broader social media platforms like Facebook or Twitter

Edited to add: I am on a Facebook group and it is pretty much the same as Net54 except has no BST area.

I mean, this actually supports my position that forums are a type of social media, but social media is a broader umbrella than just forums. That first sentence says it all. The term social media is broader than forums. All forums are social media, but not all social media are forums.

I'm not sure what you asked AI though, because I got the same response as posted above. I'm going to guess you asked, "are forums and social media the same thing" based on the way the response is worded. Wheras I asked "Are internet message boards considered social media?"

Sure, one can emphasize the similarities, one can emphasize the differences, but to me there is not a right and a wrong answer here.

To the effect of is an online forum social media? Don't recall the exact words now.

Oh I agree! I'm an old veteran and a singularly nasty piece of work when it comes to pissing matches on discussion forums.

But I own up to it. I don't desperately try to rationalize my behaviour.

But by the same token I contribute big time. You might try that too sometime.

Someone sure thinks highly of themselves.

I guess someone has to.

I didn't realize starting a bunch of worthless threads was the measure of contribution here. My bad.

By the way, I've contributed more in information on 90s inserts here in just a few replies than you have in all the threads you've started.

while both involve online interactions, "social media" refers to a broader range of platforms where users share content, connect with others based on personal relationships, and often have a wider range of features like posting updates, photos, and videos, whereas an "online forum" is a dedicated space for focused discussions on specific topics, usually with a thread-based structure where users post messages to engage in deeper conversations around a particular subject matter; essentially, social media is about connecting with people, while forums are about discussing ideas in depth within a niche area.

Geeee, if you had at least one we could compare contributions. Unfortunately you don't.

I'm considerate enough to leave some topics to others.

I'm a traditionalist. Moreover first impressions are lasting.

I hear that. I'm the same way. I never had a facebook account until about 8 months ago. I made some connections on forums in my search for ultra-rare Barry Larkin cards. They directed me to a facebook group dedicated to rare 90s inserts. I refused to join for so long, but ultimately realized I couldn't find some of the cards I was looking for without it. So I gave in and signed up. I realized I don't have to use it like the traditional platform it is. I could use it just like this forum. I make posts in the group and reply to posts. I have literally nothing on my profile and don't post on my page at all. I don't have a single "friend." I just post in the group.

OhioLawyer is the broken condom of Net54.

I'd post an image to demonstrate this fact, but I'm getting an error trying to upload it at the moment.

Did you know that newspapers are also considered social media? It's true. OhioLawyer told me so. They have a classifieds sections where people share intimate details about themselves and share contact information to make social connections. And obviously, newspapers are a form of media, therefore, they are by definition considered to be "social media".

It's ok to admit you can't read. We won't make fun of you too badly.

Yes we are. For example the picture in post #85 is messing up the formatting of a good thread here:

People are still cavalierly ignoring your request. Maybe you could ask the Net54 service provider whether there's a way for the program to simply reject overly large pictures with the message "All images must be no larger than (such and such) in size."

I think one problem is that when I post from my phone, I can't tell how large the pics are- they just fill up my phone. When I view Net54 from my phone it's the same thing- all the pics look to be the same size.

It's only when I am at my desktop that pic size is a problem. When the pics are larger than 600 x 800 or so, then I need to scroll down to see them.

I used to get prompted by net54 to resize my apple iphone image that i was posting. That is where all of my collection photos are housed. Then it changed a year or two ago on the website, and it usually either gets sized large or not allowed and I have to screenshot it, edit the photo and retry. I dont know how to resize the file on its own easily.

Tapatalk works? I downloaded that app but it’s not obvious how that helps just looking through that app.

Any help appreciated.
