I am sure its just an oversight that it hasn't been mentioned yet, but many people say that Walt's nicest card can be found in the T207 set. It is basically a [modern] art piece, and looks [sorta] like him.

Another WaJo card with the same image as the T204, T206, and Rose PC is the M116 Sporting Life card, which I think can still be obtained at a lower cost than each of the other three (in comparable condition).

A few in this thread I've never even seen before. Appreciate the suggestions! Awesome t204 Ryan. Probably a little more than I want to spend at this time but I do plan to add one eventually, although perhaps in a slightly lower grade.

Mathewson probably has as many.

Mathewson is hurt by missing the photographic issues of the 1920's, and having basically the same cards as Johnson before that.

Johnson is not in most of the "E" card sets. Or "D" for that matter, is he? So not basically the same cards at all.

I thought about that after reading the comment and he really isn't in many E card sets. How nice would it have been to see an E93, 94, 97, and 98 Johnson in those sets.

And Johnson is in some sets where Mathewson is not -- Ramly and T207 come to mind. In any case I think it's not accurate to say that during the period of their overlap they had "basically the same cards."

Yes Christy has 3 or 4 poses or so in the E sets and Johnson has 1 or 2. Whether slight differences in the exact sets upends the “basically”, frankly, I don’t really care. They have a similar checklist of cards. You can be right and get me this time.

I remembered Marty’s caramels as the E93 + the copy/pasted image they used for 30 sets. Forgot the E95 and E90 poses that give him a significant gap in caramels, though Johnson has others that Matty doesn’t, but similar cards. The Matty caramels are nicer than Johnson’s T207 Matty doesn't have…. I’ll pick the T3 for both of them as the best, but if it’s ignored then the T206 dark cap or the E93 Matty beat any Johnson in my book.

Matty has 14 but I may be missing some. E90-1, E91-A & B, E92 (5 backs), E95, E98, E101, E102, E105, E106, E107, E145, E224, and E-300. I never realized that until the question was posted. Last edited by Casey2296; 11-23-2022 at 01:03 PM. |

Johnson but not Mathewson is in the 1914 Fatima (T222). Mathewson but not Johnson is in the D304 issues.

Well I just made a deal with board member Don for this one. Some great suggestions in the thread, but I think this will fit well in my collection. Thanks Don!

When it comes to the E91 set, the E91A Matty gets the nod over the E91C Johnson, as the artwork of Matty's face is based upon his image, while the facial artwork for Johnson is based upon Rube Waddell's face.

I have never seen those e91 cards before. I'd hate to buy a Johnson that isn't even really Johnson.
