PSA 7 Koufax now a 3K card??

All right, I just upgraded my Drysdale rookie to a PSA 7. And....go! (hoping some of Sandy's magic rubs off on his old rotation mate).

Mark my words, Adam. These types of items will be cyclical over the long term for exactly the reason you have stated. They are at the price level they are simply because the hobby is growing by leaps and bounds re the number of collectors and the focus is on the key cards of the '50's and '60's. That focus will change over time, just as it has with coins and collectible cars. The number of examples in existence, once the focus does shift, will prevent linear appreciation, since demand will shift with it. When demand diminishes, so does the price with items that are not that difficult to find. Like coin cycles involving truly desirable items, while the value will trend downwards, it will likely remain above the level it was when this cycle began. Buy rare and significant in an area where the market is presently quiet, as coin collector John J. Pittman did. Pittman could never afford the true "trophy" type coins, but ended up with a collection that sold for between $30 and $40 million in the course of several auctions after his death in the '90's.

and still not convinced of some buying group out there. the prices that have gone up are completely across the board, on every level and cover every faucet of the sports cards arena. not just ryan, rose, clemente, koufax, etc.

it's bond/mcgwire tiff rcs, 86-90ish fleer basketball cards and boxes, key rcs and short prints, just about any centered card, cards that break the grade (leon's robinson, the 52 mays), football and hockey cards, don't know about much modern but from briefly pursuing those sections the same explosive growth is happening there as well.

maybe people are noticing and crediting that it's a viable platform to park some money while having fun doing it. or maybe the hobby is simply just healthy. and of course if someone sells something and makes a bunch of extra $X....what's he probably gonna do w. a lot of that $X? hopefully save some of it but probably dump it right back into something else...

now go back and reread this thread pete. bread crumbs were certainly left everywhere and in every thread.

nothing but the truth was stated. i can assure you these cards wont be back up for sale anytime soon.
