So you did all that research and came up with a $66 dollar bid? just seems odd. In another post you say you might have gone to 9000. Quite a jump from 66 bucks. |

Sorry Jim re-read your posts, so you knew this manufacturer made these and they ranged from $700-$1000 items, so your bid was $66......then u did your research after the auction to learn the baseball ones sold for more (while possibly being incorrectly dated) and then would have gone to $9000.
So if these go to auction labeled 1940's/1950's, you still believe it goes for well over $9000. It very well might, but might not. I guess we'll have to see next time one goes to auction. And no not jealous of the good buy by Bob, I too saw the item, did not know the value, but would not have gone to 2K so too rich for my blood, thus can't be jealous of something I wouldn't have gone for. Just like the guys who sell a Wagner that they bought for 20K for over 200K, too rich for my blood. Now if it went for $66, then yes I'd be envious indeed. as Bob said at one point he thought it was a $200 sale.
I was traveling on Sunday and that made it difficult to continue with the auction God help the next AH to list one as circa 1900 as 200 people will be calling them out on the description as we all have become experts on baseball music boxes funny how easy it is to become an expert/authenticator in the baseball memorabilia field Last edited by murphusa; 05-06-2015 at 07:37 AM. |

I have passed onto Bob some information I obtained concerning these music boxes. I was told that these boxes were ordered from Zimbalist by the Cleveland Indians to award management and players for the 1948 championship. This seems to fit the right time period and I believe the story to be true. I will leave more details, if any, for Bob to fill in.

Thanks Mike and Kenny! Was real happy to add this piece and although I didn't get as good of deal as Bob, I couldn't be happier

I believe the music box sold for quite a bit less because it is broken and doesn't play.
