![]() But please let common sense prevail, and don't. Mays or no, Banks or no, you still have a fine autographed ball. Enjoy it for what it is, and don't stress over what it isn't. The Clemente alone makes it a very special ball, IMO. |

Any info about the details of the upcoming signing would be greatly appreciated. I sent a PM to mdallen, but I am excited beyond belief about this. I am working on an autographed 1963 Fleer set and figured I would never get Mays. I can't pass up this opportunity.

Sounds like a reality show "When Autographs Go Bad"...I'd say it's too much of a risk...you'd probably be lucky to just get the ball back without Willy's sig...
I remember once at work I had a golf book by Sam Snead I was hoping to get him to sign...As I recall I showed it to his son Sam Snead Jr. and said I was hoping to get his dad to sign it...he goes...oh I can sign it just like my dad here let me have it...and he signed it big as day right across the cover...what could I do scold him...I just thanked him and acted like I was grateful..ugh!...pretty much ruined that book! http://www.net54baseball.com/showthr...=141897&page=4 I've run into Willy twice...each time he was gruff...Above is a link to an old thread about the time I escorted him to his room...Now Joe DiMaggio...there's a guy that cared about his autograph...link below to another old thread that details it http://www.net54baseball.com/showthread.php?t=113372

Hopefully, I'm not off topic on this. I attended the original 1989 Tropworld 500 HR show in Atlantic City. I remember even back then, Willie Mays was not very nice. He signed my ball in black pen and all others are in blue ink. Also Ted Williams didn't even look up at anyone when you said thank you or commented anything to him. He also rolled the baseball across the table and would have rolled across the floor if I didn't catch it. Also, for the record, Reggie Jackson signed NO autographs at that show. He had his arm in a cast, he attended , but that was the extent of it. The promoter, Thyberg Sports Marketing was not going to give money back for Jackson not signing. He eventually did. At the time, I was 24 and way into autographs and many of these guys were heroes of baseball to me. Gentlemen were there like McCovey, Schmidt, Banks, Killebrew, Mathews , Jackson. Others were not so kind Robinson, Mantle. Others were totally rude Ted Williams, Willie Mays.
I got my Reggie in Rochester NY to complete the ball. Last edited by widowmaker; 02-23-2015 at 02:22 PM. Reason: typo |

Can you be sure the Mays autograph is stamped?

So what was the verdict? Do you send the ball in to try and get sign? I know the signing is supposed to take place today

I think we should have a contest to come up with best visual representations of what we think the ball would have ended up looking like.
It will probably make you feel better about things.

Coming late to this discussion, and with a sort of off topic question, but how did people find out about originally mentioned signing ($350). I have a card I'd like to get signed if the opportunity ever comes up again. Any feedback appreciated.
