plan of still working on my 1921 World Series E121 Yankees/Giants team sets. Made huge progress this year and cards are getting hard to find. Also will be working on a complete set of 1923 W572 cards. Am about 15 cards from finishing. And finally looking for a reasonably priced T207 Ward Miller to finish off my T207 Cubs. These are my Prewar goals.

as to Postwar cards, will pick up the Topps Cubs cards as they come out including the updates and maintaining my complete run of Topps Cubs from 1951 to current. Hopefully I can add the 2015 Topps World Series championship Cubs :-)

2014 Goals:

(1) Continue to prune back collection and focus more on tough Ruth cards. - Check (added about 20 cards or variations)

(2) Continue to make progress on small sets (W519-1, W521, W590, Baguer) - Check somewhat (added two W519-1, three W521, three W590, one Baguer)

2015 Goals:

Basically the same as last year.

(1) Continue to prune back collection and focus more on tough Ruth cards, trying to obtain 1-2 "big" cards.

(2) Continue to make progress on small sets (W519-1, W519-2, W521, W590, Baguer)

I went crazy in 2014 and finished my SGC registry 1935 National Chicle football set, picked up a 1952 Mantle, and a Sporting News Shoeless Joe among others. Also started my T205 and 1933 Goudey sets. Found out that is a lot to bite off. Slowing down for now on 1933 Goudey now that I have 2 of the Ruth's and am about 40% done.

Goals for 2015:
1. Get to 75% on T205 set.
2. Pick up a few Mordecai Brown cards
3. T206 cards of Joss (pitching pose) and Lajoie
4. (Unlikely) 1915 Cracker Jack Lajoie
5. I will get sidetracked...I always do. T205 project was a sidetrack

Meet more great people here on Net54. Truly a great group of collectors. Privileged to be a part of it

One Major Goal:

Spend A LOT less this year than I did last year.

2014 was a huge year for me as I got back into serious collecting after a 6+ year break. Yah! (my wife's excitement not so much). I sold off my whole collection in 2008 (approx $100k) to buy a business (that's since went under - ouch) that included a partial set of 33 Goudey including a Lajoie in PSA 6, a 14 CJ Cobb in PSA 3 and a CY Young green portrait T206 in PSA 5.
In April I fell head over heels for the 14 CJ set and have been trying like a madman to complete as much as possible before I lose interest or go broke trying. (Interest is still high but much closer to the broke part). As of 12/31 and in 8 short months, I was 56% complete while finding some tough cards like Hick Cady and Ray Caldwell (thank you Barry and Tom). I attended my first National and visited the Rock n Roll HOF! More importantly I met some really cool people that have gone out of their way to share their knowledge and passion for these awesome pieces of history. It's a great community and feel lucky to have this board to feel connected to it.

With 2015 coming to a close - it's time to look back at our goals for 2015.

A) CHECK! (Thanks Jake - it's like my very own beachfront property)
B) Grabbed two of them (Thanks Jobo for always being on the lookout)
C) CHECK! My little baby girl has slowed down my time spent on my collection, but it has been the best 5 months of my life!

Have several T207 Ward Miller cards so I expanded my T207 Cubs to all possible 32 backs for Cubs cards ( have 25/32 possible plus one brown ink version)

Picked up E121-80 Frank Baker card for my E121-80 and E121-120 Yankees/ Giants

Added a few W572 cards and some upgrades to my W572 strip card collction

Updated my 1951 to current Topps Cubs collection keeping it current including Topps Updates Cubs

And my Cubbies made it to round 2 of the post season.

Would say that is a fabulous year for baseball in my home.

Step 1: Find the 1924 Diaz Cigarette of Guy Morton and Pete Donohue
Step 2: Find a 1933 Worch Cigar for Earl Averill
Step 3: Find a T207 Cleveland Nap Blank Back/Napoleon

Well looks like I'm carrying these 3 over. That said, finding the T216 VE of Bemis still made 2015 really strong for me

I really wanted to pick up the Cobb and the Chance that were in auction this year, but the funds were allocated elsewhere. They both went for low prices, but I'm sure that when they come up again in a few years and I'm ready to buy, they'll go through the roof.

Besides E105s, I did pick up a handful of cheap, raw E102s for fun.

a) 1933 Goudey Lou Gehrig
b) 1954 Topps Hank Aaron
c) 1921 e121 Babe Ruth (Follow Through / Throwing)
d) t206 Ty Cobb Bat Off
e) 1951 Bowman Mickey Mantle
3) Continue to build my Pre-War collection
#1 - Accomplished this goal earlier this year.
#2 - Picked up a 1954 Topps Hank Aaron. I also picked up a t206 Ty Cobb Green. Not the Bat Off I originally stated, but I love it just the same
#3 - Got a t206 Green Cobb as stated - nothing else pre-war wise. That will be part of my 2016 goals.

2) Locate and acquire one 1889 Detroit N172 that I still need (3 poses remain)
3) Locate and acquire one N173 Detroit, one N333 Detroit Journal NewsBoy, or Detroit Wolverine scorecard from a year I still need (1885 or 1888).

All three are about equally likely/unlikely. I would claim complete success with as little as two OJs and a scorecard.
A good year, although only successful on item #3 with an N173 of Sam Thompson. I also picked up several N333s but no Detroits. None of the 19 Detroit N172 poses I need made an appearance in 2015.

Someone should/needs to start the "Favorite Pick-Ups of 2015" thread which should compliment this nicely (applies to everyone and may include items that were not identified as goals at start of year).

2015 I'm going to try to take a year off as much as I can. 3 or 4 mid range cards at most.

1-T205 Hof ----- got 2 HOFs and 2 tuff visions
1-N172 (Omaha team set) ------- NONE
1- CUBS Hof -------- picked 7 nice prewar CUBS HOF cards
1- what ever happens or catches my eye
------ a R309 Goudy RUTH
I also worked on a completing a couple of 70s sets that I never finished as a kid.

All though I stated I only wanted to pick-up only 3 or 4 cards for the year, I ended up with 12 - pre-wars cards that the cost of them all pretty much doubled the cost of what I thought in my prediction but was in no way out of line with budget for collecting. Ill have give some thought as to 2016 goals.

Although technically I succeeded in only half of my goal (Sam Smith - Louisville from my A list), 2015 was ridiculously good year. I added 23 Old Judge players in total including one other Louisville player, two Milwaukee players, three Denver players, two Minneapolis players, a Chicago Maroon and two Spotted Ties. In addition, I managed to nab Leon's Old Judge/Dog's Head advertising spinner and a Dog's Head pack. I sort of threw caution to the wind in 2015 since I was still on my severance package after losing my job and knew that I would have to seriously rein in my activity in 2016.

Therefore, at the risk of being repetitive for 2016 I'll keep my goal at one Old Judge "A" list player and one Old Judge "B" list player and be happy to hit 50%.

Never got a D351 or D355. If either become available I might still go for them even though it won't be quite the same without the rest of the ACC alphabet collection.

Since I gratefully found this board this year, I wasnt able to set any goals last year. But personally they've remained the same...

1. Continue to collect color pre-60's HOF rookies - indeed
2. Start and continue to plow away at the monster - yes! Over the past year Ive been fortunate to acquire over 120 t206s, mainly 4's.
3. Continue to attain various types of color cards - check - got a tango egg, a T209, T210, a few E92's and some Obaks.

Those will continue to be my goals in '16.

4. New goal - pick up one Lenox, Broad Lead, Carolina Brights, Red Back Crofts, Red Hindu or Uzit!

Cheers and good luck everyone!

Had a great 2015 and looking forward to a better 2016. The highlight was picking up a Black Swamp Hal Chase and 1916 Everybodys Yankee.

For 2016, the easy first...I've started to collect the T206 HOF portrait cards so I will continue on that path in 2016. I picked up several in 2015 in the SGC 10 to 40 range with great centering and eye appeal.

Now the tough and impossible for 2016 and beyond...

Cracker Jack Frank Chance
T204 Ramly Blair
D381 Fleishmann Love (or any Yankee D381 other than Donovan)
T213-2 Frank Chance NY Am.
E121 Rip Collins, Quinn and Roth
T206 Uzit, Carolina Brights, Hindu Red and Drum Yankee

Easy right!

2014 goals
1) finish the e93 set - didnt get any close, still need Cobb and Plank

2) pick up a red backed w554, didn't see a single one for sale in 2013 - nope - at least I saw one in an auction this year, but had to leave it for a board moderator (hi Leon) to focus on goal #3

3) add 12 more e92 Nadja (still need a few St. Louis cards that might make this possible) - off hand, I'm not sure exactly how many I got this year, but am now over 1/2 way done the set

4) possibly start another easier caramel or 30's set such as e96, diamond stars, etc nope - but have been starting to eye the diamond stars set again the last couple weeks

5) pick up an m110 - nope

2015 goals are pretty much the same, with the primary focus being to get to over 40 of the Nadjas, which shouldn't be too difficult as I still need a number of the really easy ones.

DJ
Had a mixed year in 2015. Made very little progress on my main goals, but still picked up quite a few cool items.

1) E93 - Finally picked up the Plank. Now just need to pick up a nice presentably low grade Cobb at a reasonable price.

2) W554 - Made no progress and this has really kind of stalled as my interests have shifted. Not really looking to make this a goal for 2016.

3) E92 nadja - Only managed to pick up 2 new nadjas for the set, both St. Louis players (Stone & Oakes). I did upgrade a few non-st louis players. Currently I'm at 36 out of the 57 confirmed. I also picked up a red crofts Bescher as a placeholder since it is not yet confirmed with the Nadja back. Looking to move up to at least 42 and pickup at least 1 of the big HOFers by the end of 2016.

4) Start a new set - Started both a diamond stars set as well as a raw 1962 Topps set. Hoping to get up to 25 cards in the diamond stars and 3/4 the 1962.

5) Didn't get an M110. So still looking for something like an M110, N566, T3, or T4

6) E/T Young backrun - started a back run of the orange background young card. Currently have 4 different (nadja, cocoa, blue crofts, E78). Would like to add 2 other backs in 2016.

2015 Goals:

(1) Continue to prune back collection and focus more on tough Ruth cards, trying to obtain 1-2 "big" cards. - Check (added about 38 cards or variations, many of these upgrades to my existing collection). No huge Ruth cards like I wanted, but still upgraded my Pathe Freres Ruth card, and picked up an e103 Honus Wagner that has been on my want list for a while.

(2) Continue to make progress on small sets (W519-1, W519-2, W521, W590, Baguer) - Check somewhat (I gave up on my Baguer set since I simply have not made much progress on it for a while, and have been selling it off over the past year. I did add two W519-1, zero, W519-2, one W521, zero W590)

2016 Goals:

I'm pretty sure it's going to be more of the same as the last couple of years.

(1) Continue to prune back collection and focus more on tough Ruth cards, trying to obtain 1-2 "big" cards (not necessarily Ruth).

(2) Continue to make progress on small sets (W519-1, W519-2, W521, W590)
