That's a pretty bad rule to go by in my opinion. Judge what you're buying for what it is, not the price it goes for.

You are the one who just said "rule" - I purposely said "good hint".

Any time a price is too good to be true, it should raise eyebrows. Based on "judging [the item] for what it is", which is what we did in this thread, I was not the least bit surprised when he responded with the price he did.

It's not the greatest but basically the positives outweighed the negatives.
Since this thread has had such lively discussion about the Mantle specifically, can you share with us any other details on it, or where it originates, what dealer had it, private party, auction, etc? Autographs can usually stand on their own, and should, but background when available can often make the puzzle easier to complete.

Jee Mike would let the buyer beware or if it is to good to be true it usually is. be better for you. Who wrote your rule.

Sorry, I misinterpreted it as you always thinking that low prices meant forgeries haha.

FWIW, I saw the person that sold the Mantle and Foxx that the OP was asking about. I do not know him personally, but he sells a lot of raw autographs, and I have bid on quite a few myself this year from memory...a few Ruth's, lajoie, etc. every time I bid I scanned his other raw autographs and they always looked good to me. He sells some authenticated but mostly not, and good quality raw stuff too. I would be confident buying from him in general, from what I have seen in the past.

I didn't save the ones from earlier this year, but here are a couple recent Ruth's by the same seller (I had bid on the cut Ruth). I was interested in both.

The most positive thing I can say is that they were both signed by the same person and it was probably not the same guy who signed the Mantle.

Jeff, I would stay far far away from those Ruths. I am really surprised that you would even think that they are anything but bad.

I think they must have fooled some others as well as I am fairly sure that both had big name third party certs, one might have even had both, I can't recall for certain but will look. I can check and see if I can find the images of the letters too for prosperity as well, just to confirm with myself that my memory isn't going haywire :-)

You all know Im not expert but damn! Those are some ugly ruths that I would not even think close to good!.. The lined paper signed on reminds me of paper they send home with elementry school kids to remind them to write letters on a level plane.

And just like all good autograph discussions should, a thread that isn't about Babe Ruth becomes about Babe Ruth :-)

Here are the two TPA certs I was able to find that were with the two Ruth cuts posted above, when they were sold earlier.

Jeff - I am not sure anymore what a JSA letter means.

You mentioned that the guy sells Ruths. I figured a look at his Ruths would clear up pretty quickly what we are dealing with, and it has.

I could care less about the certs that you just happened to dig up in a few seconds after I said they where garbage. I would not buy them. I think that the experts on ruth have proved themselves wrong over and over again in the last few years.
I can tell you that I sent these two pcs to four people that I have much more respect for than the tpa's. They all said bad. I will stick with there opinion.
I thought the game of gotcha was over. But I guess you did not get the message.

No "Gotcha" involved, honestly I don't really like being accused of trying to pull something over on anyone here. I only posted the scans originally because Scott asked me too, and I had to go back and take the time to locate the listings for the certs.

When a thread no longer makes me feel good about the way it's going, I bow out and that is what I will do here. It's the kind of thing that makes me not choose to contribute as much.

I will try to participate in a way on the next one that doesn't upset anyone.

Jeff, I wouldn't worry too much about it. There is some frustration because someone is selling forged Ruths and likely screwed Joel on that Mantle. All of this is occurring in an environment where the knowledge is present abd it's right in your face. If you think YOU want to leave, how do you think someone like Shelly would geel? He has nothing to gain by posting here, nor do I, as we aren't concerned about buying a fake Mantle or Ruth. We are simply sharing knowlede. If all you need is a JSA letter, then you are golden.
