I wish your before and afters were on the same page. Is the red any less bright after you lose some of it? I can't really tell. Red is a color you rarely find on Giants pennants.

Yeah Rob...I was thinking the same thing. Unfortunately, it pushed over to the next page.

It's funny with this one. The red ran like crazy but was no worse for the wear. Doesn't look faded at all. The red of my Giants pennants did look slightly lighter. Not enough that you'd notice unless you had before and after pics but I could tell. This one the red looks just as dark.

However...the blue does look slightly lighter. Which is weird, because the blue didn't run at all. The bleach must've just lightened it some. Not too noticeable and again the after product looks much better than the before...even more so than is evident in the pics.

I can see the slightly lighter blue graphics. Did you dilute the bleach a bit this time, or did you stay with 100% bleach?

This one definitely went from a "trader" to a "keeper". Looks so much better.... great job!

Thanks Mark. Yeah...This one was a 60% bleach 40% water mix. Nothing scientific here, my bleach spray bottle just happened to be 40% empty lol.

There was a point in the process, when the red was running everywhere that I thought screw it. Lost cause. Then I noticed the running red started to run off completely with each successive spray. If I was in love with the pennant I probably would've stopped sooner. But because I was willing to risk it all, I got better results.

Big thanks to Fballguy for throwing this my way. He hit me up and offered to send this to me knowing I've started a pennant collection and it's a beauty. Thank you so much Rob for kindness, generosity and those talks we've been having. I'm still craving a Papayas Hot Dog, lol.

Islesnut - welcome! I just scored a near complete 1970s WHA set on Saturday! Being from Minnesota originally, I have a special appreciation for hockey pennants! We can commiserate!

Rob, below is my before and after bleach experiment on my Royals pennant...it seemed to get some stains out, but it also took some color from the lettering out and seemed to 'yellow' it some. I think I put too much on as I really wanted the stains to come out. Likely more operator issues than anything.

Also had two pickups this week. A Packers and Memphis Blues pennant. The Memphis Blues' condition is not mint, but I like it anyway!

Default SF Giants collection

So, I got lucky enough to get connected with a Giants collector who is downsizing his collection. I was able to pick up these four rare Giants pennants. I'm especially excited about the Orange pennant depicting Seals Stadium.

Great pennants Marc! I especially like the picture pennant.

Which brings me to another question for the collectors here… Does anyone know why some teams don't have any picture pennants from the 60s? I can think of two general styles although there are a few I've seen which are isolates knockoffs. Anyway I don't think I've ever seen a Cubs picture pennant, only one Mets before '69 ... no Red Sox either. Has anyone else?

I am personally trying to complete a Phillies "set" from 1960-69 ....

I don't know, Greg. In my experience, some of the 1970s picture pennants seem to be pretty rare, but command little money (less than more common logo pennants). I just picked up this 1978 Astros team pennant. Or, from my Giants collecting perspective, a Bruce Bochy rookie pennant.

I swear that picture pennant used to belong to me! The "pinback ring" in the lower left is the giveaway. Small world!

My pleasure Mike. You guys going to have a white Christmas? It was actually cold here in Texas (relatively) for the past couple weeks...even got a dusting of snow...but temps are gradually climbing this week. In the 70's now unfortunately.

Happy Holidays to all.

Hey Rob,

We might get a dusting of snow for Christmas. Maybe less than an inch. That could change though.

70's? I'm jealous, lol.

Marc....

Those are all 4 great! Especially the Seals Stadium version that you made reference to. It's one of those that I regretted trading a few years ago (hoping another one would eventually surface). Has not happened so far, but good to see that you found one. It's possibly the SF Giants first-ever pennant.

Great haul!

Default Holiday pickups

Merry Christmas everybody!

A few of my friends know I picked these up, but figured I’d share with the group. The condition of the football pennants vary, but there is a good bleach candidate in the Browns pennant. I hope to have better results than my KC Royals attempt...but it’s good to have one under you belt . Maybe Rob can hold my hand with some drying technique, too. Haha

The NY Giants pennant and program were a fun find!

I hope everyone is having a great day!

Picked these up today for 20 bucks for the pair. I don’t really collect pennants but I can’t not buy them when I see them (is this just me?). I am slowly coming to the realization that maybe I do collect them.

Rob, Mike: Thanks for plugging my BLOG. I really, really appreciate your support. I'm glad you enjoyed what you read.

All: I started pennantfever.weebly.com because of my love for vintage pennants and my profound appreciation of the companies responsible for their production. I wanted to know the history behind my favorite pieces; but, without more information on the manufacturers, I knew next to nothing.

So I turned to the internet and found this thread. And, like many others have shared, I started at page #1 from 2014 and read through it to the present. I learned so, so much about this hobby--information I probably couldn't have found elsewhere.

That information, and the intelligence gaps you all identified in your discussions, led me to create this site. It's not just for serious collectors. It's for anyone that loves vintage pennants and wants to know more about who made them, where they came from, and when they were made.

Every post will cover a different manufacturer. Within each post I'll cover company history, key products, and maker's marks. I started with Chipenco. Then I took on Collegiate of Ames. I just finished up a piece on Trench. Trust me: there'll be plenty more to cover in the coming months.

Anyway, I hope followers of this wonderful thread will check out the site. And, to those of you that kindly allowed me to use your pictures, THANK YOU.

Domer - you taught me more about the COMPANIES than I ever knew.

Now, I gotta check my pennants for the damn SS mark. Pretty sure I have a least a couple of “Giant on the bridge” pennants with that mark. I always thought it was just a random baseball.

Keezer pennants have been discussed here but I’d love to know more!

Thanks, dont see them often. Played in Rohnert Park Stadium, an Angel affiliate I think. Later inhabited by the Sonoma County Crushers of the Independant Western League. Kevin Mitchell even managed them and managed to get in a brawl where the other teams owner got clobbered

For some reason this one has proven to be elusive. I finally picked one up today. Not an earth shattering event but at least it keeps this thread on the first page.

Always great to pick up something you’ve known was “out there.” I doubt you even had to pay much.

Default Pennant related

I was in SF this past week went to a Giants game. They have an area called the "Vault" with some memorabilia to help celebrate 60 years in SF. They only had one pennant on display (a not so rare version with a pitcher that was not even worthy of a picture). But they did have these two banners. One that looked very much like Rob's. And a second pretty cool one of a batter that was supposedly hung along SF streets to help welcome the team in 1958.

Very nice pickups, jimm!

On a separate note, I've noticed a disturbing (and growing) trend of Ebay Sellers portraying reproduction pennants as vintage. Way too many examples to list, but here are a few examples...

Seller uses the word "vintage" in his description, and has it priced at 6 times the value of a reproduction. Hopefully nobody gets sucked in...

https://www.ebay.com/itm/Vintage-Bro....c100011.m1850

Just another obvious Mitchell & Ness Repro, which has garnered 2 bids over $100 so far. You would hope that anyone with over $100 to spend on a piece of felt could tell the difference...

https://www.ebay.com/itm/Rare-ORIGIN...t/192630816617

Common reproduction of a Brooklyn Bums Pennant. But the seller uses the word "vintage" and has it priced at 4 times the value of a repro...

https://www.ebay.com/itm/Vintage-MLB...gAAOSwojdbOVXk

There are far more.... it took me about 4 minutes to find these three

It bothers me too. I sometimes email them and obviously get no response. They all know exactly the scam they are running. I don’t know how people live with themselves, but that is society nowadays.

I emailed someone about this a couple weeks back and they actually updated their listing. I expected a snarky response but all I got was "ok" and when I checked the listing was revised.

But I agree...I've noticed many more recently. I was always thankful reproductions hadn't really made their way into the pennant hobby. They've pretty much ruined the card hobby. Just about any card you search on eBay will have unauthorized fakes in the search results.

Don't know if I ever posted about it on here, but I bought a "rare" Packers pennant from a guy in Canada. It looked a little weird but it was the Packers so I took a shot. The thing was made out of fuzzy construction paper that he called "felt" and literally looked like he made it in his basement using supplies from Michaels.

He didn't offer returns, but when I threatened to open a "not as described" case with eBay...the first response was defensive and resistant. But after opening the case, someone else reached out to me and couldn't have been more cooperative. In fact, he refunded my money without me even sending it back. I didn't want it, so I did send it back...and once he received, he sent me another $10 for the return shipping cost. He's got others listed now. I see multiple teams and sports. They are junk. I also noticed he's dropped his asking prices pretty significantly.

Default Pennant display and storage

So, my pennant collection has outgrown my available wall space. I've posted a few pics below.

I'm looking for creative ideas for pennant display and/or storage. Maybe some sort of rack or shelf system? Like maybe a large pennant binder/shelf that would allow flipping through pennants? Maybe even maximum use of wall space.

Also wondering if anyone has a system for keeping critters out (like silverfish), other than constant vigilance.

Great question...My system (or lack thereof) is so inefficient. Trying to find an individual pennant is like looking for a needle in a haystack. Love the flip/file idea. If it doesn't exist, I might have to invent it.

This is what I've done. It's OK but not perfect. It would be better with the binder clips shown in the second photo (you could actually unclip the back one and swing the pennant out for viewing) but after I threaded all the clips through the braided wire and crimped it, I realized the binder clips take up too much room. I had to go back and cut them all with wire cutters. It was a pain. If you do something like this, make sure you screw the brackets into wall studs....all those pennants get heavy.

I just realized, it's kind of hard to see that there is a center bracket. That one has screw eyes to "guide" the cable.

I really don't display my good pennants. I buy "wall hangers" and/ or Mitchell and Ness higher quality reproductions and I display them like they were meant to be displayed: by tacking them to the wall. No top loader, no frame. I just prefer that look and I hate spending money on pennant accessories.

That said, I'm absolutely paranoid of airborne dirt, sun exposure, and moths. That's why I store my good pennants in a cheap rectangular Tupperware container from Target. You can stack 50 pennants in one of these, seal it from moths and airborne dirt, then shove it under a bed away from sunlight. Sure, you can't display them this way, and finding one when you need it is tough, but it's cheap, easy, and safest for the pennants, so that's what I do.

For extra protection from moths, I place an old sock filled with cedar chips, lavender, and rosemary inside each container. This is just as effective as moth balls--but smells much better (and isn't toxic).

One word of caution. If you try this method, and/or stack vintage pennants for any length of time, make sure at least every other pennant has some type of protective sleeve on it. I learned the hard way that vintage pennants, particularly those covered in decades of patina, will slowly leach this stuff onto surrounding pennants. Felt dyes will also transfer. Lighter colored pennants are most vulnerable so if you care about that '75 Reds pennant in white, don't stack it anywhere near a navy blue Yankees pennant.

Default 49ers pennant

This just arrived. I'm excited. It is the one 49ers pennant that I really wanted.

With respect to my other post about pennant storage and display, I'm going to try these for oversized pennants.

Sounds like there is no one system fits all for storage and display. I'm still thinking on it. I do want to keep some pennants on display, but am also concerned about a moth or silverfish sneaking in to do some damage. I think that I have the sunlight concern under control (with two sets of blackout blinds).

Nice AAFC 49ers pennant. It matches a series that was from that era. That is a very tough pennant.

I dont like over cluttering wall space. At this point I like the rigid top loaders atop a waist high shelf. I can flip thru and rotate what I want on the walls. I dont have the qtys you all have yet

Default Cleveland pennant

I read through All 178 pages. Took three days. I saw a similar pennant but have not found where I saw it in this forum.
Any info would be helpful.

Hi ... this is a great thread, isn’t it? Your Indians pennant is made by Keezer, 1950s or early 60s. Being that it is a 2/3 size pennant and looks faded (?) ... hard to tell in pic ... you have a nice display pennant for a collection but with minimal resale value. Maybe in the ballpark of $20-25 on eBay. A full-size version of this pennant in VG condition would be closer to $75-125.

Greg, many thanks for your reply. That's actually good news to me as I purchased a large lot and this was just added free as an afterthought.

There is also a crumpled Mets one which I might go back and get now that I have pennant fever. Lol

Hey guys - been a while since I’ve been on here. Some great pickups and conversations lately! Here are a few of my pickups the last few months (a couple of phantoms in there). Hope everybody is well - I need to participate more than I have lately!!

Great finds Eric! You know how I feel about the 49ers and Eagles pennants.

Sweet all star pennant as well.

Let me know when you're having your yard sale.
