Couldn't quite afford the Original Rules, but was pleased to pick up this 1899 edition of the Kansas University Yearbook. This was the first year for basketball at KU and the first year as coach for James Naismith. Also, pretty cool pictures of the baseball and football teams. As you may know, Naismith was the only KU coach to have a career losing record there.

It probably was a game that was rescheduled due to weather issues since it has Apr. 23 printed on it. Look at a newspaper from April 23rd, 1939 and you can probably confirm this. I hope this helps! |

Since there are not too many tickets in this collection I am trying to get all 4 homerun game tickets. The newer ones aren't real difficult but older ones obviously are. I just managed to get this Joe Adcock stub off Ebay. July 31st, 1954. I still need Lou Gehrig 6/3/32 in Phila, Chuck Klein 7/10/36 in Pitts, Rocky Colavito 6/10/59 in Balt Willie Mys 4/3061 in Mil. & Mike Schmidt 4/17/76 in Chi.

i was speaking more as to which game the ticket stub came from, and was directly referring to the april game that looks to be the day the ticket was issued. trying to determine why someone would write the "july 13" date on a ticket that was clearly for an april game?

While I would agree that the barrel appears to be a match, the handle shows a much different amount of pine tar applied. The in-use photo shows minimal pine tar, wheras your bat has what I would call extensive application of pine tar. I would tend to attribute this this to Montero using this bat over an extended period of time before he cracked it. He might have even hit more homers with it than you think, given its use. Food for thought.... Last edited by Scott Garner; 10-28-2012 at 04:38 AM. |

I understand what you mean by the pinetar, but I think it's just the photo. Because if you look closely at the handle in the game photo you can see that it's built up more then it looks. Included a better photo of the same at bat. But I think Montero may have used the bat on and off from mid April till he broke it on May 31st. Also photo matched it to several Singles and Doubles and maybe a third homerun but need to find better photos. |

Scott- Does the Red Sox team photo have any info on the back? It appears to be taken on the bleachers at Majestic Field on Hot Springs, Arkansas? I have never seen that exact photo before.

I agree - I hope to have the photo checked out by others who might be able to confirm the paper does indeed date to 1915. I was happy with the price, assuming it is of the right vintage. If anyone else knows any more about this than I do, please let me know - thanks!! Mike - my assumption was that it might be a Hot Springs picture, based on the mixture of home and away uniforms, so your belief and knowledge of how the bleachers should appear would back that up! |

Picked up a pretty rare signature for under $10. It is on the whole minor league scorecard but I just cropped out the Tomas De La Cruz for photo purposes. He played only one season (1944) with the Reds and died very young at 46 in Havana Cuba in the 50s. Cant be too many of these around....

Hey all,
To finish up the month, I thought I'd try to contribute: ![]() Kenesaw Mountain Landis ![]() Frankie Frisch ![]() Johnny Mitchell I picked up these three photos over the past month or two, and I know for sure that the Frisch and Mitchell are Conlons. The back of the Landis makes no reference to any particular photographer, but it looks like it could be from Conlon's lens (though I don't recall ever seeing any filing numbers on his images). Either way, I thought they were all cool images and would make for some really nice paintings. Especially that Landis!! Thanks all, Graig

It's June 1968 and your Dad says let's go to Crosley Field and see the World Champ Cardinals. You grab your Instamatic and off you go. Well, it could have gone like that. Picked these up on ebay, not much in a photo clarity sort of way but I thought they were neat shots of an old ballpark.

Thanks a lot, guys! I'm definitely excited for that Landis most of all.
Jeff, McCarver or no McCarver, those photos are top notch. You gotta love the look of old Crosley field back then, especially with all of those buildings out back. It's amazing to think that in the 40s, it was even more colorful, as all of those buildings behind the fences had advertisements all over them. Check it: ![]() ![]() Man, I would have loved to have gone to a place like this when I was young. And by 'young', I mean 32. Graig

A bit embarrassing to post amidst such great items, but love being apart of Net54 and just wanted to contribute a piece that I've always been drawn towards.
Most of you probably understand that in being an Indians fans, you're restricted to a small group of players when it comes to collecting 'the greats' of the organization. I've always had such a draw towards the 58 Maris card and finally ran across one that was in by no means good condition, but at least had some rich color and decent clarity. Not even sure if it would register a number with PSA because of the crease at the bottom, but I love the card moreso for the story it tells and honestly for the emotion it invokes to see Roger Maris in an Indians uniform. Just wanted to share my October pickup. |

Something about this actually made me laugh out loud. Maybe it's the visual of Dybzinski or the simple memory I have of my dad relishing in the day the tribe got Tabler for JD. My dad loved some Tabler, so Jerry's name has always been fresh in my mind.
