Never easy to defend the super millionaire baseball player. Like I said before, this lot has already made up its mind about Jeter. If i succeeded in showing that he is one of the most charitable players in the game today -- which was all I was trying to do -- then I'll take that pyrrhic victory.

You didn't say he was ONE of the most, you said he was THE most, and you couldn't prove that. All David did was ask for a source for that claim and you got all defensive. If you look at his post, all he said was 'source?' Last edited by travrosty; 04-15-2012 at 11:43 AM. |

That was just some fan's opinion of the "Top 5 Charitable Current Players". It has nothing to do with fact. Jamie Moyer was not even listed, and he would rank ahead of all those people. Yep- he's still a current player
![]() I am sure there were other significant omissions as well. Dumb argument, but I can see both sides to it. |

Agreed, this is dumb to argue about. I'll admit i was off by 2. But this is simply not the hallmark of a greedy person, let alone worth coming onto a public internet chatboard to call him a "greedy prick" and a "greedy bastard" which is Atkatz's favorite Net54 pastime. http://www.givingback.org/Programs_S...ck30_2010.html Tell us more about your Babe Ruth ball that was signed for a little girl in 1927...

The argument is a moot point. This money most likely isn't for his charity or it would be transparent in an effort to raise the money. Even if he's donating portions of his singings to his charity, he's pricing out a HUGE amount of potential supporters who would gladly donate if they knew they were donating to a charity and he's also pricing out donors who would gladly donate a few hundred dollars for a good cause if not for the $2500 price tag to donate.

He donated half a million dollars. Out of what? I'm sure he earned at least $25 million in 2010. He gave a whopping 2.0%.
For comparison, President Obama just released his 2011 tax form. He donated $172,000 out of an adjusted gross of almost $790,000. That's 21.8%, more than ten times Jeter's rate. And Obama will shake your hand for free. Last edited by David Atkatz; 04-15-2012 at 03:55 PM. |

But if we're going to change topics, what percentage of a person's adjusted gross income should he donate? All I know according to your expectations of a good person is that 2% makes you a greedy bastard. I think it is obscene for you to have an autographed baseball of Babe Ruth. You should sell it for less than it is worth and donate 2% of the proceeds to saving the whales in the South Pacific: http://www.seashepherd.org/

Or, if you can't catch that one, perhaps you can make this one. It will only set you back a minimum of $35,800 per ticket: http://ajwatchdc.wordpress.com/2012/...r-costs-35800/ I'd probably be willing to venture that there will be some sort of "official" business on these trips as well in order that John Q. Public can pick up the travel tab for the President. Last edited by thenavarro; 04-15-2012 at 07:00 PM. |

Gee... I didn't know Jeter was running for office.

Guys, when this was about baseball and autograph signing it fell within the ranges of the board. The last several posts, not so much. As much as I hate to lock threads I will leave it up to you guys. The next post that is not pertaining to baseball will get this thread locked. And I want to bring another topic up that might be a lightening rod in itself. See the next thread, re: autograph sub forum.... happy collecting.
