They're not interchangeable. Well, at least they're not meant to be.

Farther should be used for physical distance and further for metaphorical or figurative distance.

Has there ever been a Net 54 thread that went farther, further, and faster off the rails than this one?

Right now, if someone made a baseball card observation on here, would they have to note it as OT?

So there's a guy sitting on a fence in Arizona snapping his fingers. Another guy comes up and asks him what he is doing? Guy on the fence tells him he is keeping elephants away. Guy that walked up says, there ain't any elephants for thousands of miles of here. Guy on fence says "it's working ain't it!!"
