Hi Val
I've taken the liberty of including Eddie Plank. There has to be at least one southpaw in this mix [who is in the same class as your 4 right-handers]. I hope you don't mind, ole buddy. There are only 5 (or perhaps 6) T206 Plank cards with the SWEET CAPORAL 150, Factory #30 back. . TED Z T206 Reference . |

Ted, Eddie Plank was gertainly a great pitcher, but I would have included Lefty Grove before I included Plank. FYI, the reason I included Alexander instead of Grove (or Plank) is that I felt he enabled my group of 4 great pitchers to best correspond to the time period represented by the 4 great hitters in the other thread.

WaJo's hands-at-chest pose is tougher than his pitching pose in the 1921 E121-80 American Caramel set. Based on the pop reports, there are likely 20 or more of these h-a-c poses in existence. However, the majority of them would have Type 1 backs (there are 4 back types - see Rhett Y.'s super article in Issue #26 of Old Cardboard Magazine). The Type 4 back is scarce, and furthermore, the back printing on mine reads from bottom-to-top, whereas the back printing on most E121-80s reads from top-to-bottom. Below is my Type 1 back (PSA 2) followed by my Type 4 back (SGC 60):

Speaking about Johnson (hands-at-chest)....here is his T206 from my all-SOVEREIGN set. It's pop report data is about 20 (+/- 2).
Whatever, it still qualifies being posted here, as it is a good-looking card with the colorful "apple-green" back. TED Z T206 Reference . |

What a great cabinet card! John Thorn made a post about that image before. It makes sense that it would have been produced in 1889, or even before, when Young was playing semi-pro baseball in Uhrichsville.

W575-1 cards with the Henry A. Johnson backstamp are scarce. Almost all that are known have a purple backstamp (I'm still looking for a WaJo). A very, very few have been found with a turquoise-color backstamp and a different address, as seen on this WaJo. I have also included a card (not a WaJo) with the purple backstamp for comparison.

I suspect folks are getting tired of seeing black & white WaJo cards with the hands-at-chest pose (but, I love this pose!), so I'll show my last two such cards in the same post. The combined pop reports show seven H801-8 Boston Store cards and eight E135 Collins-McCarthy cards. Anyone willing to part with a WaJo card with the h-a-c pose that I haven't posted in this thread, kindly email me at ekehl333@aol.com.

The combined pop reports for the W503 card of WaJo show 2 (mine is raw). Interestingly, the original photo used for this card was sold in the very recent RMY Auction, although there was no mention of this in the lot description - here's the link: https://rmyauctions.com/bids/bidplace?itemid=34378 Unfortunately, I was merely an underbidder for this photo.

Since everyone has thoroughly enjoyed seeing (or maybe not) my black & white, real-photo cards of WaJo with the hands-at-chest pose, I assume you are anxious to see b & w, real-photo cards of WaJo with the pitching pose!
There aren't any of this card listed in the pop reports:

Derek, very nice Piedmont's! one of the toughest and underappreciated issues of the early 20th century. Even ones with nice fronts usually have back damage due to the adhesive gum, making it doubly tough to find problem free examples.

Getting back to the E121-80s, the pitching pose of WaJo is easier than the hands-at-chest post - there are almost 50 listed in the combined pop reports. However, most of these have the Type 1 backs (the pop reports do not distinguish by back). I am confident there are less than 20 of each with the Type 2 and Type 3 backs, as shown below:

Here's one final post of two more low-pop, B & W, real-photo cards (everyone loves these - right?) that were produced from the same photo of WaJo - an E126 and a M101-6:

Ryan, as far as I know, both variations are from the same year, however, some cards in this set have been found with a 1927 copyright date. Cards have also been found with blank backs, and these are believed to have been cut from an advertising sheet. Not being a set collector, I don't know much about this set. Here are links to other info re this set, including past Net54 threads:
