Default Arod Game used Ball f7

I started collecting modern Game used because I felt that MLB Authentication was pretty solid. I have been an Arod Fan for many years and getting a game used ball that Alex hit was something I had been looking for. So when I saw this Ball that Alex hit off of Cole Hammells for his Home Run #548 at Tropicana field that had MLB Authentication I was stoked. Even more so since it arrived in my mailbox.

Wool warm-up suit worn by Ben Eastman silver medalist in the 400m at the 1932 Olympics. He is shown wearing it on one of the Reemstma 'cards'. This was given to me by his granddaughter

Studio portraits of William Wheatley member of the 1936 U.S. Olympic basketball team. Due to the rules only half the team played in each game. He played in the gold medal game and was the member of the team who mounted the podium to receive the gold medal and laurel wreath. These were part of a 10 pound box of papers sold by his son-in-law.

My goal for 2022 was to focus my efforts on my 1971 Pirates game used bat collection. I wanted a bat from every player who played at least one inning in the field and had at least one at bat. I decided against adding pitcher’s bats. I started the year with Clemente, Pagan, and Clines which left fifteen players to meet my goal. I never thought I’d actually accomplish the goal but my contacts at Clemente Museum, Duane Reider, and Zane Burns made that a reality. My father purchased the Maz as a gift for me and the Jackie Hernandez was actually from the 1971 World Series, as is Jose Pagan’s. Carl Taylor and Charlie Sands were certainly the toughest to locate. I also had fun getting some of them signed. Every player I asked was nine enough to add their nick names when I asked. So many thanks to Scoop, Action Dog, Grave Digger, and The Mount Savage Strong Boy for indulging me.

Thanks for the kind words Scott. My friendship with Duane at the Clemente Museum has truly been a blessing.

WOw, Wow, Wow. Some absolutely incredible stuff this year. Congrats to everyone on your meaningful additions.
For myself, it was a very good year. Was very fortunate to have sold some things at exactly the right time to be able to add some pretty significant items for my Gehrig collection. There were too many good things to list them all, so here are a couple of my favorite items

1) Newspaper with a huge Ruth-Gehrig Illustration that takes up almost the entire front page. The photo is a bit blurry. It is spectacular in person.

2) Lou's plaque that hung in the Ted Williams museum until it closed.

3) Original snapshots of Lou with Babe taking batting practice.

4) Snapshot of Lou signing an autograph for a kid

BUT...
perhaps my favorite pickup was not an item, but my display case that i created to display some of my collection. I was worried, but I think it came out awesome

I hope everyone has a healthy and prosperous New Year.

That is so frickin' awesome Mike. Are all of the bats from 1971 or the approx era, or did you have to get some from later in the 70's etc or when players were with different teams?

Thanks Mike, They range from 1967 (sands) to 1977 (Gene Clines). Those two are also the only two that aren’t Pirate bats. Sands was a Yankee for one game in 1967. The Clines is from his time with the Cubs. It’s pretty tough to link a bat to a particular year based on center band labeling alone. Bat order records aren’t available for every player. The only ones I can definitively say are 1971 are Zisk, Sanguillen, Pagan, and Hernandez. I plan on finding a Clines replacement eventually. I’d like to get a blonde Stennett as well. Sands was way too tough so I’ll settle with the one I have.

That is an awesome display case. Did you retrofit a case on the inside or build entirely from scratch?

Some great items on this thread.

I love the federal league pennant and the Gehrig display.

The Yankees "Grommet" pennant was my major find this year and my favorite pickup.

It's a retrofit. I made a separate post about it.

Jonathan:

ARod hit his HR off Jason Hammell NOT Cole Hamels. Note the spelling. Cole Hamels never pitched for the Rays and since the game was in Tropicana Field it had to be Jason Hammell who was with the Rays in 2008. See:
