It’s an odd situation all around. Many, perhaps even a majority of the overall hobby ignores reality if PSA doesn’t acknowledge it. PSA acknowledging actual reality makes it become real to many, and changes the demand equation instantly.

Is Michael Jordan still famous? Was he that guy in the Tom Hanks movie, The Green Mile? I can't imagine buying his basketball card today. I don't understand the new card hobby. People pay 10 grand for Mac Jones cards. It's a different hobby post about 1936.

I don’t see the difference here. Ruth, Cobb or MJ, the absolute best and most popular demand the highest price. I don’t see why we would expect MJ not to be at or near the top of basketball cards? I agree prospecting and the huge prices for guys who haven’t accomplished much is nuts, but what does Michael Jordan have to do with that?

Greg, I may be way off base here, I don't think Michael Jordan is a famous person outside of the sports memorabilia world. Babe Ruth is an historical figure. I may be way off here.

Might be a touch of sarcasm in that previous post that is confusing you…

Yes I’m well aware the claim Jordan is the guy in Green Mile and isn’t famous is a joke. No shit . What I said is about the last three sentences about the modern hobby and its differences.

Do not apologize, Nic. Someone finally agreed with me on here after 20 years.

No, I read too much James Joyce in high school and it has clouded my ability to communicate.

I chose to read Joyce once. There was not a second time.

Personally, I appreciate having cards at different price points available to me. I track about 100 vintage cards and even when there are multiples it does not seem to affect the prices unless there are multiples of the same grade.

The 1986 Fleer Jordan is a unique situation. I do not believe that those few outstanding results on the 10s were genuine sales, but setting those aside, the card is suffering from a unique problem: PSA is grading the Star cards. Has PSA grading the 1951 Bowman Mantle hurt the sales of the 1952 Topps Mantle? I don't see PSA grading the 1985 Star Jordan XRC hurting the value of the 1986 Fleer Jordan RC. It is the most iconic basketball card in existence, just like the 1952 Topps Mantle is the most iconic postwar vintage card. Collectors will always want it.

The problem is the Jordan RC in PSA 10 went from 30k to 300k in a short period of time. Then overnight from 300k to 738k. What is going on is a natural correction with holders taking profits and eventually those buying back in outnumbering sellers and the card going back up.
