Thanks Mike. Didn't think we'd be seeing all the great items that are being shown and I especially like learning about other items that I don't even collect, but have an interest in. Some of these pieces I didn't even know existed.
Remember that the O's played the Pirates in the '71 and '79 Series; I'm sure there is something in your great collection that relates. |

Day 37 (February 6, 2020 – 037)
Since Scott (quitcrab) posted his very cool #5 shirt, still in the package, I had to picture the example I found while digging through my junk (collection). I forgot I even had this Orioles #5 shirt and I’m quite sure I had one of these when I was younger. I don’t know if I have any photo documentation, but I remember wearing all type of Oriole shirts, AND of course BALTIMORE COLTS stuff, when growing up (by the way I still do…well, I wear Ravens now). I do have my Orioles jacket “somewhere” from when I was young. Hopefully I can find the jacket and break it out before the end of the year. When playing football in my neighborhood along with my Colts shirt I’d sometimes break out and wear my authentic reproduction, game used, live-action, Baltimore Colts Raymond Berry #82 football helmet. Sadly, the helmet is long gone… This is a late ’60’s (possibly early 70's) Orioles #5 shirt; child small (6-8). Day 37 a Orioles small shirt.jpg Here’s a picture of Brooks throwing out a runner at first with a similar #5 shirt; his may have been an XL, but as you can see he took his shirt out of the original package… Day 37 b Photo 1968 throws to first.jpg |

1959 Amarillo Gold Sox
One of my loves are items from the minor leagues. Today I highlight the 1959 Amarillo Gold Sox. The Gold Sox played in the Texas League and were the Orioles AA affiliate. They finished in 5th place with a 75-71 record. They averaged 1,098 fans per game, so you can see how hard it is to find items from those early O's minor league teams. I'm happy when I can find a program or team photo, but to find both is sweet.
The Gold Sox featured two players that would go on to contribute to the Orioles, but in very different ways. Jerry Adair (2nd row, third from left) and Cal Ripken Sr (2nd row, far left) 1959 Amarillo Gold Sox.jpg 1959 Amarillo Gold Sox 1.jpg |

AWESOME piece! Are those exhibits attached some way to the sign or are they printed on the sign in some fashion? |

The 3 players are attached along with the 1 cent sign. The print outs are on a thinner card stock. I believe it is real and vintage from the era of the 1960s.

Bill,
That's a great looking BiCentennial Grich bat! I was super excited when Grich started playing for the Orioles. Great defense, good hitting and just an all around great player. Wish he would have stayed, but with free agency it just didn't happen. Here's a snapshot of Grich at the park. Snapshot Bobby Grich.jpg |

Day 38 (February 7, 2020 – 038)
I haven’t shown an album yet and today seems like a nice day to lay in my bed, nice and relaxed, and listen to an album on my record player. Well, I don’t have a record player anymore (of course my daughter does; if you didn’t know they are “IN”). Also, I probably wouldn’t be listening to this album, even though it’s likely interesting. Back in the day I’d be listening to Zeppelin, Rush, and maybe even some Alice Cooper (WHAT!) or many of the other albums I (my parents) purchased. By the time of 8-track and cassette tapes I was buying them myself or at least a some of them. This album is entitled, “Brooks Robinson: Theory of Fielding” and of course has a picture of Brooks on the cover HITTING. Well, at least they used a cool shot with Brooks hitting (photo by TADDER) with it kind of exploding all around him (I’m sure you photography people would know the filter used; me, I don’t know). On the 1966 Orioles WS program a similar type shot was used. This album was from 1972 and if I would have ever listened to it, it probably talks about fielding… 1972 Brooks Robinson; Theory of Fielding album Day 38 a.jpg Day 38 b.jpg |

Sadly, today marks the first anniversary of the passing of Frank Robinson.
While this piece isn't from his Orioles days, here is a hand painted, signed Locker Nameplate from the old Milwaukee County Stadium (note the Schlitz logo), when Frank managed Cleveland. Over 10 years ago, I was the high bidder in a lot of 20 or so of these, since a good # of the players represented were Orioles (which I will share down the road): Last edited by roarfrom34; 02-07-2020 at 07:24 AM. |

Baseball Monthly photos
I love stuff like this. Here are the rest of the Baseball Monthly photos picturing Orioles. i believe they are from 1962, although some sources say they are from 1963. Even though the scans came out different sizes, the photos are all 8.5" x 11".

Bob Leffler Drawings
Quote:
The top drawing is obviously Gary Roenicke, but Scott and I originally though the second drawing to be Larry Harlow (since there is no other drawings of him), but now I'm leaning towards this being a second drawing of Roenicke. He did use a face mask on his helmet at one point, while I don't remember Larry Harlow using one. Thoughts??? Roenicke, Gary (Batting).jpg Roenicke, Gary (Repairing Helmet).jpg We have narrowed the last drawing down to either Dave Ford or John Flinn. I thinking John Flinn (no mustache). Again any thoughts?? Rawlings Advisory
Day 39 (February 8, 2020 – 039)
I’m unsure why, but I really like the setup on these 8x10 Rawlings Advisory photos even if it’s not Brooks. Brooks has a few of these photos and this one is a favorite. Scott (quitcrab) posted four of these Rawlings photos and I thought we needed to see this one again (post #381). 1960’s Rawlings Advisory photo. Day 39 1 a.jpg Scott (quitcrab) has an example of a Rawlings Advisory photo that I had never seen before; I’m glad he pictured it on this thread for all to see. Scott, maybe just a shot of the one of a kind Rawlings photo by itself? Since we’ve already seen this Rawlings premium photo I’ll go ahead and picture another dugout shot of Brooks. I don’t think this snapshot is from 1969; the writing on the back states, September 11, 1966. The Orioles played the Twins in Metropolitan Stadium this day and the O’s “almost” came out on top. What your mom said back in the day reminded me of a Frank quote. A fellow at work dabbled in cartoon type drawings and did a couple drawings for me since he knew I was a Brooks fan (he always pictures himself; the one in the Browns shirt...poor fella). In the drawing he used the quote, "I don't see why you reporters keep confusing Brooks and me. Can't you see that we wear different numbers." 2014 Brooks and Frank drawing Greg Robinson drawing.jpg |

It is from 1975. There are two different variations with a slight cropping difference by the S on his jersey (amount of black showing from his sleeve). The one on the left is also a little lighter than the other. You have the one on the right. 1975 Postcards 08.jpg |

1961 7-Eleven Orioles
In 1961, 7-Eleven issued a crude set of 30 cards. There was supposed to be a second series, but never done. I can only assume the poor design and pink cards weren't widely received by customers.
The Orioles had four players, even though many sources list Gene Woodling with Washington. 1961 7-Eleven.JPG |

Brooks Vintage Cards and Pictures
Hi. I am an avid Brooks Collector. I have 100% of the Brooks Cards on the PSA master (see Brooksie Master on PSA). I am hoping to find regional Brooks cards that may not be available through ebay or shows (hidden treasures from the 1950, 1960 and 1970s). Pictures to, such as Sports Service, Rawlings, Exhibits, Jay Pub, Orioles Post Cards (I have a lot of these but not all and I learn about more routinely). I have a lot of oddball Brooks stuff but looking for more. I have lots of vintage cards to trade. Hope to hear from you.

1959 Vancouver Mounties media guide with Brooks listed as an infielder on their roster. He started the season in Baltimore and was sent down to AAA Vancouver in May where he played in 42 games for the Mounties. During this time he hit .331 with 6 HR's and 30 RBI's before returning to Baltimore.

Day 40 (February 9, 2020 – 040)
This is a fairly early B&W shot of Brooks, taken by photographer Don Wingfield, in his home uniform and the picture just has a great look to it; has the bat, glove, baseball sleeves, and the awesome bird logo on the left sleeve (can’t get much better than this…). See post #583 for a picture of the patch, in vivid color, that Clint (ksfarmboy) has in his collection. 1954 National Bohemian tri-fold pocket schedule.
At the Orioles 60th Anniversary game against St Louis I was sitting behind the 3rd base dugout amongst several Cardinal fans. One of the Redbird fans asked the beer vendor, "what is Natty Boh"? The vendor replied, "the worst damn beer you will ever pay $8.50 for." The adventurous fan then proceeded to purchase one for him and his buddy. Btw, the O's hit 6 home runs during the game.
