Ted Williams Autograph? opinions needed!
hey everyone! Since i'm VERY new to this forum and have read some incredible responses to questions that others have had i figured i'd post some pics of some Ted Williams Auto's that an elderly family friend gave me before he passed away. i know he is one of the most faked autos out there so any opinions on these would be much appreciated. thanks!!!

the two Teddies you have are pretty different, so at least one is fake. I am not an expert on his signature, but he hof'er one looks closer then the blue sharpie one. I have seen too many fakes signed in blue sharpie, so i don't like that one.
Joe, i have no opinion on, i can't find my sample page i have.

I agree with Joey and Jim. The top one signed in blue sharpie does not look real.

Granted that a Joe Jackson (as an example) in blue sharpie is impossible, but a Ted Williams is not. Cobb was notorious for signing in green, but I'm sure that he signed some in other colors. Glad that I don't collect autographs, Doug Last edited by doug.goodman; 01-14-2012 at 07:39 PM. |

In my opinion, The top Ted Williams is no good. It is the most common Ted Williams forgery, most likely derived from the wave of bogus Score Board stuff. However, both the bottom Dimaggio and Williams HOF plaque postcards are both good.

Not taken seriously by most experienced collectors and many see it as a red flag in and of itself.

The real Scoreboard stuff was good. The subterfuge that went on with claims of "this was from Scoreboard and has a Birdsick COA" that was a different story.

I will post this picture again for reference.
This was signed in front of me in Florida at the baseball hobby store owned by Ted's agent, Vince Antonucci who later went to prison for defrauding Ted. I spent an hour with Ted after he signed for me, just listening to him talk about baseball. The best hour I have ever spent in the hobby. I can still remember the stories he told.

Your are right Richard I did not clearly express. Yes I agree the original scoreboard stuff was all good as I know they hired the players directly to do the signings. It is the wave of the bogus stuff that followed that all had scoreboard certs is what I was referring too.
