As far as the logo goes I was under the (apparently faulty) impression that the logos of the day were more than likely felt patches. That picture appears to confirm an embroidered logo. Does anyone know for sure? Thanks! Chris |

There were both logo patches (mostly on sleeves) and logos that were embroidered directly on to the uniform or cap. The latter was much more common, as evidenced in the photo posted above...

You guys are full of great information! Thank you! One last question: was the Cardinal red of 1910 the same as the Cardinal red today? Or was it a different shade?

It was perhaps a bit more burgundy-toned. Still in the spectrum of red, but with a burgundy tint. The logo of today is just a flat-out brash red... the color back then was deeper and richer.
The best comparison I can make is a red rose (which has burgundy tones) vs. a stop sign (which is a straight red). Hope this helps.... |

The photos come from the online Library of Congress George Bain collection that has over 2000 early baseball images. http://lcweb2.loc.gov/pp/pphome.html Search on "baseball" for all of them. You can search for specific players, teams (St. Louis NL), etc. |
