Should Rebacked cards be graded as Authentic?

Curious to what everyone's thoughts are regarding cards that have been rebacked. In your opinion, do you think these cards should be encapsulated by a third party grading co? |

Personally I would be ok if it were AUT with a "rebacked" disclaimer on the flip....but others might disagree... |

The grade "authentic" with a line that says "rebacked" would be perfect. Just as long as there is no numeric grade assigned to a reback card, I see no reason why rebacked cards are not holdered like other altered or trimmed cards. |

stating "rebacked". 19th century photographic cards are often found rebacked, esp. where the cardboard is deteriorating but the albumen photo is still nice. They have value and are worth slabbing provided they are clearly labeled. |

Yes, labeled "Authentic Altered"... Although not original, these still require protection. Also include old cards that are taped or have scrapbook remnants. |

All authentic graded cards should have a description that states why they do not have a numerical grade. IMO |

If the front of one card is merged with the back of another, I don't think the term "Authentic" is satisfactory. The label would need more information. |

I don't think it need be that specific. Any two different cards that were merged together do not constitute one "Authentic" card. |

I had a Connie Mack Old Judge before they even had the authentic grades, that was rebacked and I would accept an authentic grade - the image on the front was fine - rebacked cards still look good - really depends on the issue |

I was at an antique shop in rural PA. The owner was selling the original axe George Washington used to chop down the Cherry tree. I commented that it was in very nice condition for its age. |

A question is how much of the original card has to be there for it to be called the card? 50 percent? 60 percent? |
