eBay's three-card monte on a single card sale.
Gentlemen (and the occasional lady or two),
Has anyone here been asked by eBay to submit a card to the following address after sale on eBay? 1600 E St Andrew Place, Suite 150 Santa Ana, CA 92705 I know to some of you this seems obvious, but my anal retentive bone is confirming. By the way, the card I mailed to the above address was graded before transport by PSA. I called them last evening and was told by the initial operator the card was received, but then lost. I was then told by the specialist I then spoke to that she would contact PSA during the call and every two minutes she came back on the phone to advise me she had PSA on the phone. Eventually PSA confirmed according to her that they had the card. I woke up this morning to see two e-mails in my account: Hi Brian, We want to let you know that your buyer opened a request because they havenÂ’t received their item. HereÂ’s what happens next: In the next 48 hours, weÂ’ll review the details of the case and then get back to you. In the meantime, sit tight. ThereÂ’s nothing you need to do. 17 minutes later: Hi Brian, eBay opened a case because of an issue with an item purchased from you. We reviewed the case and have decided to issue the buyer a refund of $xxxxx (my edit) without any impact to you. This case is now closed. You aren't required to reimburse the buyer to eBay and this case will not be counted in your seller performance evaluation. You can view the details of the case in the Resolution Center. Nothing like a trust in eBay. Last edited by Brian Van Horn; 04-13-2023 at 06:51 AM. |

Seems pretty straight forward. Card was sent as required to the authenticity guarantee, authenticity guarantee received the card, buyer didn't like it/get it and filed a case. Since you did everything right in shipping, Ebay refunded the buyer out of their own pocket and you weren't impacted other than being kept in the loop of what was happening. Sounds like Ebay actually did everything right as expected.
I had a similar thing happen a couple weeks ago, however, Ebay wanted me to show proof they received the card after they had already authenticated it.

Thank you for the response, but you can't have a card verified as being in PSA's possession last night and then not. So, we went from the original operator stating the card was lost to the specialist verifying the card was in possession of PSA and then the refund. The only thing that tells me this is possible is that the original operator put in a lost card notice to the customer during or after my call to her and the specialist. Ah, nothing like a smooth operation and the potential for someone to profit off the card. Last edited by Brian Van Horn; 04-13-2023 at 07:28 AM. |

So where is the card?
At PSA? Who will follow the plan and send it to the buyer who already was refunded? Or will i be returned to the seller? Or..... what? Ebays third party processes are gradually becoming a disaster. It's not so bad with cards so far, but the big talk on the bicycle group is that international sales shipped through Ebays internationa shipping system are getting as bad as it gets. For items over some unknown size, the buyer gets a message that their package shipment can't be completed and they get a refund. The seller gets a similar message. And the package? Destroyed. |

Steve,
Here is your answer as of 9:56 a.m. EST today: "eBay Good news, your item was authenticated! Next, your item will be professionally repackaged and shipped to the buyer. We’ll let you know when it’s delivered!" So, lost, found in phone conversation last night followed by lost, refund, found in four e-mails this morning. |

Authentication program works for sellers once again.
I really dont understand the disdain for this program especially considering how many crappy buyers there are on ebay. |

I agree. It seems like eBay decided to reimburse the buyer too fast instead of waiting to see if the card would be located at PSA.

So now what are they going to do, take the money back from you and then return the now found card? Or, God forbid, leave the money with you and destroy the card, which Steve seemed to be hinting at as being done by Ebay in a somewhat similar issue, but dealing with oversized bicycle parts instead? I certainly hope the card does not end up destroyed/trashed in this case. Curious to hear what they (Ebay) say and do next.

It was before the 1:07 a.m. e-mail today that opened a case for a missing card, I was told by the specialist yesterday evening they had located the card. Ah, corporate communication at its finest.
