Default Worst Jackie Card Ever?

Is there possibly a worse, less attractive Jackie card in existence? I mean it’s decent until you get to the head. And then you do a double take. Not sure who he was thinking of. Blonde hair possibly? Looks more like Rick James maybe.

I don't like the 54T with the cut off cap.

Not a fan of drawn images on cards that are this "modern", and this one is very amateurish. This sort of thing made more sense in an earlier era, when photographic reproductions weren't as cost-effective. If I appreciated such drawings, I'd collect comic books.

Right, but isn't that the intent of these cards, to channel the look of older cards? I always assumed it was.

Could be, but then it would have been wonderful if they had tried their hand at the gorgeousness that was the set that inspired them in the first place. That sort of artwork I could seriously have gotten behind! (Then again, some of those depictions are pretty sad, too. Being released 44 years prior to the '55s allowed them a bit more leeway for cringiness, IMHO.)

These were clearly created by whoever did the little comics on the backs of the Topps cards.

It seems clear they are influenced by T201, but yes the artist was weak.

Not M.P. & Co. weak, but those are "special". Heavy, heavy use of the quotation marks there!

Leaf.

The sin of the Doubleheader is that the head doesn’t look like Jackie.

The sin of the Leaf is that it is hideous. I’d cast a vote that it is among the most overvalued cards in the hobby too.

White folks didn't get black folks skin color correct on cards until 52-53, even into 56 they couldn't get it right, 56 Mays has always reminded me of a bad rendition of Al Jolson. The folks at Bowman got it right in 51.

The 53 Topps is my favorite Jackie as well. 55, 56, the Exhibit, and some of the Bonds are very nice images.

1948 Blue Tint, and in particular my own personal copy, which in person has the consistency of a piece of drift wood. And no, I did not soak it.

Certainly subjective. I kind of love all of his cards, in particular 48 Leaf. $9 Bowman not far behind. If I had to pick my least favorite I suppose I'd go 54 Topps. If his image was a little smaller like the Mays it would be better. As it stands it definitely gives off a slight Al Jolson vibe.

But, it looks a lot better when our resident artist takes it on:

In my opinion, the "worst" Jackie Robinson card is one into which the manufacturer embeds a sliver of game-used material.

The image is not bad itself but his 55 and 56 Topps Hocus Focus are not pretty cards. They are however his toughest Topps cards in my experience

The artwork on Jackie's Exhibit card is pretty bad.
