What to collect
Collected many Detroit cards, sets including all T206 since sold , old judge N172 Detroit. Having trouble finding any more old judge, tough ones are hard to find. What other Detroit sets should I look at ? Thanks Joe.

If you did the T206 team set, you should put together the T205 set as well. The American League cards in that set are beautiful, the colors are great and they look fantastic all together.

How about the Dietsche postcards? The 1907 set, with the exception of the Cobb fielding, is freely available. Cobb batting is pricey, but so are all Cobbs. The 1908-09 postcards are a lot more challenging, which will give you something to work at for the next few years!
Many of the 07 cards were used by fans and many of those reference the 07 World Series between the Cubs and Tigers - you could put a used set together with only postcards that talk about the WS! |

I agree with what was just said about the Dietsche post cards. And add to that the lineups for the 1935 and 1945 Tigers. 1935 was their first World Championship. Maybe try to piece together an assortment of cards from the 33 and 34 Goudey, the Diamond Stars and such. And then again for the 1945 team, maybe adding some Play Ball's. I'd probably try for the starting lineups and starting pitchers first; but my lack of discipline would appear and I'd be getting anyone on those rosters. Matchbooks from the day remain affordable, so don't overlook those.

Good luck finding something new Joe. When I hit a wall on 19th Century Detroit I branched out into cigarette packs (started with Goodwin & Co. and branched out), redemption coupons, and coins. I still watch for 19th century Detroit but collecting the companion pieces has been enjoyable.

1934 Goudey
The '34 Goudey Greenberg is a beautiful card and the team set also includes Cochrane and Gehringer. Just a thought!

Detroit collector
Although I live in Texas now, I grew up in Detroit and enjoy collecting Detroit prewar cards. Besides the sets already mentioned, these are good ones to consider:
Topping & Co. Postcards 1909 (I have 9 different so far) Rose Postcards 1908-09 (I have 2 Det out of 14 cards I own from that set) Exhibits 1921-1929. The 1921's are still pretty available (I have 3 Det out of 28 cards I own from that set) |

Awesome cap. The "Mechanical Man" is one of my personal favorites, all-time any era. He has one of the most distinctive signatures I have ever seen.
