I was lucky to finish the set while it was still pretty obscure. Those, the 84 Topps Encased, 85 Topps Minis, 88 Topps Cloth 89 Topps Big Head Suckers and Topps 89 Mets/Yankee proof DHs were the toughest 80s sets for me.

It would be interesting for someone to try to complete the 82 set in gray transition cards....but not me

Beautiful Brett Christian! I will keep an eye out for the Brett IA.

Don’t lie Al, I’m sure you already have the Blacklessing set
I do like the Trammell run that jimtb posted in this thread...would be cool to have that of the stars imo.
I have gotten interested in the Blueless, but not so interested that I feel the need to go after the entire checklist.

forgive my amateurish question, but is there a way to tell from that list which cards are A, B or C? all this stuff is fascinating. sadly i went through all of my old 1982 topps recently and found none of these.

I think it is incorrect to call it a parallel set. They are just print defects, no black or partial black. They got referred to as a set because SCD gave them a separate listing in their Catalog when they did post 80 listings.

In my mind they are less of a parallel set than even the Topps 1968 Milton Bradley or 62 green tint cards.

I do have a list for the 396 card broken down by sheet if you can not find it on line

I could care less about the assigned grade, but I am glad they are all well protected now.

They look great in a binder too!

Would love to see examples of these if anyone has any.

I have the Cooper and have seen the Madlock and Cappuzello.

Default 1982 Topps Blackless

Not Blackless completely, but def on its way. Here’s a blackless-ing (as some clever ebay sellers call them) sheet of the highly sought after C-sheet cards. Think I should keep intact or chop it up and piece out?

I use a different word than clever. I would cut it up and sell individually.

Now I would only cut up if you know what you are doing and with proper equipment. I have cut up a lot of sheets and every card was exactly the same size when finished. I would never do a hack job om something like that, that would be horrible.

Great find! Keep as a sheet imo...

Is it faded? It looks like a lot of the other colors are losing color too. Maybe just my bad eyes.

It does have that appearance but no, not faded. It appears they were low on ink during this sheet print for other colors as well as certain small areas on some cards are missing ink.

Maybe in addition to”Blacklessing” we could add “Colorlessing” too! Haha

Curious if there are Blackless cards that have other colors missing full coverage. I plan on looking through mine...

1982 Topps is a Monster, lots of variations, including wrongBacks, Blueless, color tones variations, etc. The most weird Print defect is the Hector Cruz Blackless version. All cards have red dot in top of nose and medium to large smudge. In my research, possibly 2 or 3 Cruz card without smudge in existence.

After going through all of my 1982 Topps cards, the only one I have that is even close to blackless is one of those "low ink" type printings.

PWCC new auction.

I find it hard to believe that PWCC and other auction companies can’t see BLACK ink.

In a new slab too. Come on PSA do better.

Like the 62 green tints or 68 Milton Bradleys I think unless graders follow particular odd variations closely themselves they would have a hard time telling one from the other without examples of both in hand via the cards themselves or contrasting scans.

Is incredible from PSA, they know about variation and PWCC know what is a Blackless, not the first time they up for sale mislabeled psa.

Coolest thing I’ve seen in a long long time. You may have inadvertently started a new trend that if continues will make blackless cards with no signature increasingly more scarce. I mean, there’s one less Henderson out there now and he was already tough! You have me considering doing this with my second Dodgers team set (I am a few cards shy of having a graded and raw team set).

+1. The Dodger's team is one of the most difficult due Dodger's team fans. From B i Need Steve Yeager in Complete Blackless. The Blackless Cards are very Hard to find, i had the good luck to find nice ones.

I will keep my eyes open on Yeager for you. I failed to also mention that I think it was outstanding that you chose to use green ink to differentiate it from the original black facsimile. If I do end up attempting to obtain dodger signatures I will likely go with a blue fine tip sharpie with this in mind.

that's seriously one of the coolest cards i've seen in all my time collecting (with the green auto). i'm considering buying a regular 1982 rickey and doing it, even though the cost would totally outweigh the value (then i realize the signature is already on the regular...maybe not...haha)

Do it!
Best blue pen on cards IMO.
Rickey used the green size F on my Blackless.

Wondering if anyone knows of this as being a true variation (2nd p in "Topps" filled in) or perhaps if its just a false image caused by the software processing the scanned image? Saw this on a current Ebay auction.
Apologies on the "Non Blackless" variation question here in this great thread but imagine this represents the meeting of the greatest worldwide experts on 1982 Topps baseball.

Have seen other cards where such a letter has a filled in area, one was on a Koufax card. But had not seen such a defect on this card before

Is it a one time print defect, a recurring print defect, an early defect that was discovered and corrected ? My guess is a one time or very scarce recurring print defect

I am not a graded collector but wonder if such a print defect on a card should affect the grading. I guess not given the 10.

I think every time one of those showed up it turned out to be the scanner setting automatically filled in the small gap in the scan and wasn’t actually on the card.

Not mine, but the owner shared with me in a Henderson group PM.
Has to be one of the best Blackless “finds”. Wow.

Cliff --I think for forgiveness you would have to give it back .

It has been awhile but I seem to recall that in putting my set together the Ryan, Henderson and Morris were the ones that set me back the most

Al, I agree Henderson, Morris, and Ryan are higher value Blackless. The Henderson and Morris probably due to scarcity and Ryan for player collectors.

IMO the Henderson is nuts because it is a scarce C sheet and a player collector favorite.

Paid $20.50 and he said he was offered 3k the next week. He did not accept. I know I would not accept that for mine either

Cliff, I can't imagine being that seller and finding out what he sold.

That's incredible, a Henderson's Blackless for that price, was the deal of entire life. I had the Good Luck to found Ryan and Morris in Blackless version. Other hard is Hector Cruz without Print Flaw.

ben - do you know how much the person who won the auction put in for his max bid? curious how high they would've been willing to go.

Apparently Beckett doesn’t recognize Blackless… still can’t believe this was closed at eBay auction for under $20!
