Ruth Type-1 from 1923
Did a forum member purchase this Ruth Photo from his first HR in 1923?

Everything about that piece looks wrong, from the player who is supposedly Ruth to the re-attached more modern-looking typewritten piece re-attached to it at a later date.

I believe it just re-sold through Heritage last month in their Platinum Night sale.

I’m confident it’s good. I have no doubt that it’s him crossing home plate (with Batboy Eddie Bennett greeting him). Comparing the background from the pre-game opening day photos with this one...looks very consistent. I’ve been interested in this photo, as I’ve always been a fan of the 40K Bat.

Yeah, it's definitely Ruth. I've had this screenshot of the newspaper clipping for a while, and was always hoping that the photo would turn up somewhere.
The one offered in Heritage is close - maybe a second before the one in the paper - but it's clearly the same scene.

Legit I assumed but man that's the skinniest Ruth I've ever seen. I kept looking at it wondering if it was him. These photos confirm it is.

Yeah, his first few years with the Yankees - especially in '20 and '21 - the man was pretty damn svelte.

Good to hear. In this hobby I always assume the worst, and naturally I miss out on some good stuff as a result. That Cobb/Ruth golf tag is another example I was surprised to hear was legit. It's great that we have plenty of people here who can simply say "it's good" and you know it is.

He looks more like himself in that newspaper photo. Thanks for posting this.
Perhaps I'm getting too cynical and negative. If I start ragging on forum members again, someone please give me a virtual slap.

Can I take that to mean that you picked up this beauty? If so, congrats! |

No, sir!! It’s a beautiful photo, but luckily, Heritage has great scans on their auction pages. 😀
Whoever came away with it though, they got an amazing photo of a pretty important moment in Babe’s career to enjoy.

Big fan of your work. Thought maybe you picked it up as a future project
Out of curiosity, has anyone seen other newspaper clippings or photos of this particular at-bat? |

I have a glass plate negative of Ruth taking batting practice before the game.

Congrats on the glass plate negative...love that shot of him as well.
Any bat experts care to weigh in on this photo? The bat that Eddie Bennett is holding in this shot surprised me quite a bit. Has this photo always been known in the industry, or has this recently come to market? |

In reading more about this particular photo, it seems that it was auctioned by Heritage back in 2016, and now again in 2018. Does anyone know if this type-1 photo was known of prior to the 2016 auction (other than what was shown in the 1923 newspapers) or was it fresh to the market? Truly appreciate the help.

Taking another shot in hopes that the owner of this photo is a forum member. If so, please pm me.
Thanks Scott |

Perhaps if you explain exactly what you are looking for, it might help. Some buyers of high end items are private people.
