That's probably what made it work for so long. An $80 autographed card or ball with a certificate of authenticity wouldn't get much scrutiny from an average collector or someone buying a gift off of ebay. And I doubt many people were sending them off to PSA to get them re-certified.

They will just rat out everybody they know and get a slap on the wrist anyway so who cares.

EDIT It would be different if those POS actually got what they deserve.

Agreed. Which is why if I ever decide to start counterfeiting money, it'll the five dollar bill, all day long.
