Banned for Life
With the news of Donald Sterling being banned for life, I thought it would be
neat to post cards of all baseball players on the banned list. The current list is 30. There have been others (ie Mickey Mantle, Willie Mays, Steve Howe, George Steinbrenner), but they have been reinstated. Per Wikipedia here's the list: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of...eague_Baseball x-George Bechtel x-Jim Devlin x-George Hall Al Nichols x-Bill Craver x-Richard Higham (To date, Higham is the only umpire banned for life.) Joseph Creamer X-Jack O'Connor x-Harry Howell x-Hal Chase x-Heinie Zimmerman x-Chick Gandil x-"Shoeless" Joe Jackson x-Eddie Cicotte x-Lefty Williams x-Fred McMullin x-Swede Risberg x-Happy Felsch x-Buck Weaver x-Joe Gedeon x-Eugene Paulette x-Benny Kauff x-Lee Magee x-Phil Douglas x-Jimmy O'Connell x-Cozy Dolan x-William B. Cox (Phillies Owner) x-Horace Fogel (Phillies Owner) x-Pete Rose I'll check off all the names of the cards that get posted. ErikV Last edited by ErikV; 05-01-2014 at 11:48 AM. Reason: Updating list |

...technically I don't think he was officially banned. But it's safe to say he wasn't allowed to have anything to do with Major League Baseball after the Black Sox Scandal.

I was late to the game on Cicotte, so now I'll be late to the game on Kauff! I didn't even know I had a Kauff!

Banned because he loved to drink and hated McGraw so much...
Seriously, his bio is pretty sad... http://sabr.org/bioproj/person/3db5329e

Re: Banned for Life
Here's the last two needed on the list. To my knowledge no cards were ever made of:
Jim Devlin Richard Higham Al Nichols Joseph Creamer Thanks for your participation. ErikV Last edited by ErikV; 05-01-2014 at 11:50 AM. Reason: Updating List |

Jack O'Connor appears in the 1893 Just So set. It ought to be easy and cheap to track down one of those

Not too many people know that O'Connor is in the M116 set as a player-manager. Although there are several poses, his OJs are tough. None of these are mine.

Interesting tidbit from the Wikipedia entry you posted:
Horace Fogel, Philadelphia Phillies owner, was banned in 1912 for publicly asserting that the umpires favored the New York Giants and were making unfair calls against his team. Those must have been some pretty strong words from him to be banned for life! |

Re: Banned for Life
I'm impressed with the Howell, Hall, Bechtel and O'Connor cards. I didn't know
cards existed of these players. I'm going to tweak the post slightly and post photos of Cox, Fogel, and Paulette. To finish off the list, does anyone have photos of: Al Nichols Joseph Creamer ErikV Last edited by ErikV; 05-01-2014 at 10:29 AM. |
