Remember them, fondly and vaguely.
Dad was a big fan.

Wasn't Bob Costas their announcer or radio guy?
Lot of BBHOFers in that photo.......(5) I think............ Last edited by autograf; 02-05-2014 at 01:18 PM. |

Costs worked for the Spirits of St. Louis in the ABA. Listened to him when I was a kid. Great stories in the book "Loose Balls".

That "other" St. Louis basketball team - the one with soon to be famous announcer.

Hawks Autographed Team Picture
This is the same picture that Al posted to start this thread. It is autographed on the back by all 12 pictured Hawks. I have an unsigned pic that someday I will have matted side-by-side.

1965-66 St. Louis Hawks Schedule
This is a single fold Hawks sched from 1965-66. On the inside you will notice where I marked with a 7th grader's anticipation, the first game I ever attended. My dad and I had a blast!
I never dreamed that they would move out of town and that was the only Hawks game I ever saw. M101-4 collectors will notice that the Hawks had ticket offices at 4 Famous-Barr Department stores. Last edited by Jerry G; 02-07-2014 at 08:37 PM. |

St Louis Spirits
In the mid 70s I was a new attorney for Southwestern Bell which was at the time a sub of AT&T. I ended up trying to recover a cell phone for non payment from Marvin Barnes, I think after he left the team. Back in those days cell phones were expensive and big...in a briefcase

Hey, Hawks Collectors
Take look at the Stan Musial bat over on the Vintage Memorabilia Forum for a possible connection to ALR-bishop's Hawks programs posted above.

Not only a lot of HOFers. Father of a future player, Bob father of Danny Ferry. Also four players who would later play with the Celtics - Lovellette, Macauley, Green and McCarthy. Lovellette, Green and McCarthy would play on championship teams with them. I believe Lovellette was the first player to win an NCAA championship, Olympic gold medal and NBA Championship.

The ATL got Maravich with a pre-Bieber haircut and some interesting uniforms.

Before Atlanta
Before St. Louis Before Milwaukee Before Tri City It was Buffalo For 38 days 1946 the first year of the BAA. The NBL had been struggling along for 20 years and seeing the competition they expanded. This is a program from the 2nd Buffalo home game. Coached by Nat Hickey and had star player Pop Gates. I have a 1st game program around here somewhere. |

Love the St. Louis Hawks. Have Greg Marecek's 2 books about them plus some photos & memorabilia. I have this 11x 14 licensed photofile photo with original signatures. Not sure why the promotor (who did the reunion) didn't get Bridges to sign it as he was around when the photo was made.

Don't feel bad about the last three 1951 Topps. There just aren't many Roberts, Konstanty and Stankeys out there. I have never seen that Hawks glass before. I have two others that I will post when I get some good pics. Last edited by Jerry G; 04-03-2022 at 10:45 AM. |
