What card are you keeping just to say you have it?
In my opinion, it's a not-so-special-looking card from a decidedly "meh" set. Yet I can't conceive of parting with my '54 Bowman Ted Williams because of its significance as an important card in the hobby.
What card/s are you holding onto despite your lack of passion for them? |

1957 Mickey Mantle. I have thought about selling it several times, but I just can't bring myself to pull the trigger.

1951 Bowman Mickey Mantle in PSA 1. It only has that grade because of an ink stamp on the back.
Never got the heart to sell it. |

I feel the same way. Not a particularly attractive card. If I did not "need" it for my set, I think I would have parted with it a long time ago.

I don't have the '54 Bowman set. Just the Williams and Furillo (one of the cards, along with Schoendienst and Doby) that I actually really like.

the 84 Palmer was a special promo card made for a movie Sluggers Wife. Nice and rare card!

Always wanted one of these and then wondered why. Thought about the full run of 6 but doubt that will happen. Meantime they are just sitting in the SD box
This one I kept just because it's so hard to find, especially uncancelled. Not overly fond of the set and sold it off, but kept this just in case. |

Certainly better card than movie!

My 1977 Topps Unissued Proof of Al Fitzmorris in the Royals uniform variation. Not the most exciting...like the Reggie Jackson Orioles variation but it's a keeper.

What do you mean by 'uncancelled'? I don't collect that set, so this is the first I've heard of it.

Fleer 1960
This set involves 79 regular cards ( I like it more than Anthony). There are 3 cards "in the set" that have a back numbered # 80 with Martin's name. They are usually hand cut. The Grove is by far the most "common"of the 3...-and is very scarce. ( Anthony's is much nicer than mine). It was a printer error in all cases and many cards were cancelled, with a cut out, like the 89 Fleer FF card. Even the cut outs are highly collectible. Tinker was another affected front. Can not remember the 3d, but those two are extremely scarce

I had heard that these were redemption cards, and that it was punched when sent in to redeem whatever the prize was so that it could not be used again.

kinda doubt that- it wasn't known for many years, is often found hand cut indicating lack of proper distribution, and has the wrong back. Everything points to error that was pulled.
Plus to the best of my knowledge there was no prize offered, and I've got an issue of TTS showing the cards discovery, sometime around '73. |

Redemption
I would also think that if that were the case there would be more out there. Mine looks like it was hand cut with scissors. Also, while they all have the same back, there are 3 fronts and Collins and Tinker are much more scarce than Grove
What was the source of the redemption theory ?. Maybe Bob Lemke and Dave Hornish could weigh in. |

I have a badly mangled 1964 Topps Rose that I had to trade about half my collection for (early 80's). It probably isn't worth much anymore, but I couldn't imagine ever parting with it.

Here's the uncut sheet with #80 on it. Wish I'd seen this while the auction was still love. Note that even in uncut form it's been cancelled. Note that it is also laid out on the sheet lower than the neighboring Kiner, explaining why it's usually found OC- and illustrating why, IMO, cards that are chronically OC are found that way.
