Default Two rare T206 Herzog's travel to Cooperstown & the National & the Culver City Show

Two rare Buck Herzog T206's traveling to Cooperstown & the National & Culver City, CA
Two rare T206 Herzog's travel to Cooperstown & the National & the Culver City (CA) Show

The 34th annual Cooperstown BB card Show is this weekend at the VFW building.....which is located diagonally across the street from the Hall of Fame.

Always a great event on Hall of Fame weekend, it should be quite interesting, since no major ballplayer is being inducted into the HOF this year. However,
many HOFer's will be in town signing and engaging in some great conversations with everyone.

Mark Macrae and I are setting up at this show with lots of vintage stuff. Afterwards, we will be traveling to Chicago to set-up at the National next week.

The Herzog / UZIT is unique, in that I don't think another one has been found (as yet). The El PRINCIPE de GALES Herzog card is quite rare (perhaps
one other exists). And while I'm in no hurry to part with these two "gems", if I get a reasonable offer that I cannot refuse, I will sell (or trade) either one
of them (or both). Otherwise, these 2 guys will travel west to the Culver City Show in California in October

Stay tuned for some Buck Herzog TRIVIA.

You'll have a fun time in Cooperstown on HOF weekend. So come one, come all.

Admission is FREE......Show schedule is:

Friday..........JULY 26th......10 AM - 8 PM

Saturday......JULY 27th....... 9 AM - 6 PM (Auction usually follows at 8 PM)

Furthermore......I have recently acquired a T-card collection; and, I will bring many new T206 cards to these shows.

If you have any questions regarding the Cooperstown Show, I will try to answer them.

We've been to Cooperstown, to Chicago....and, on October 5th we will be set-up at the BB card Show in Culver City, California. See you there.

Ted,

Please give my best to Coach Flewelling. I believe he sets up at the Cooperstown show. I know him from an antique show he set up at in Charlotte, NC and have not seen him since I moved to the beach.

Thanks,

Eric

Scott and Dave

The UZIT Herzog is "short" (top to bottom) by 1/16th of an inch. I was surprised when SGC gave it a numerical grade. I asked them about this and the grader,
who examined it, said that he saw "no evidence of trimming". This card just happens to be one of those T206's that were factory cut short. He also noted for
comparison, that the EPDG Herzog is "long" by 1/16th of an inch.

In any event, I'm OK with the grades they gave these two cards.

Thanx John

It's a really fun time to be there when all the HOFer's (and ballplayers that are not in the HOF) are available. Most are very friendly to talk with.
I've had some great conversations with these guys since the early 1980's when I started going there on HOF weekend.

Every year the Show is a lot of fun and I've acquired some great "walk-ins" over the years.

Unfortunately, all the great vintage BB card stores in town have closed down. And, some of the better dining places have gone out of business.

Take care,

TED Z

Wait is it this weekend or in August? Because the dates say August below the cards. If it's this weekend, I may attend.

2) You are missing the best Herzog of all -- the Large Ass one. Buck needs to go visit the HOF

using a giant paper cutter, it is not totally uncommon for the dial to be tough to get exactly to a specific size. at least back in the day when there weren't laser precision measurements. it was a hand dial. that is the point of the crop marks. typically they are used as the cut lines. if you make one cut on the crops, the move things around and use a different top card to make the second cut...things can start going awry.

also, depending on the cutter, the back where the paper meets it and "jogs" all of the pages together for the cut can have some minor inconsistencies as well, especially if you start pushing as many pages through the cutter as you can realistically fit.

in addition to that, the hydraulic hammer which comes down can often times shift the top few sheets ever so slightly as it is applying pressure. there are micro amounts of air in between the pages that basically make them float on top of each other if the person was just working with them before cutting them. this would probably be less apparent or less of a factor in a thicker stock such as a card but when you start getting into thinner stuff such as a 40lb paper it can make a difference.

summing all of that up a 1/16 of an inch is not that much

kevin

Great cards!

Was up at Cooperstown a few weeks ago and enjoyed some good food at Alex and Ika Restaraunt. Also, Ommegang brewery has some tasty beverages if you feel like driving a few miles out of town.

Enjoy the show.

You got it.....Buck Herzog got 12 Hits in the 1912 World Series.

Now, can you tell us who subsequently got 12 Hits in the World Series to equal Herzog's record ?

And, who got 13 Hits to break Herzog's record ? ?

Tim......you got it, thanks.

Furthermore, Herzog's World Series record of 12 Hits stood unchallenged until the 1953 World Series,
when Billy Martin batted .500 with 12 Hits.

And as you noted, Bobby Richardson was the first to beat those records.

Default A pair of very rare Buck Herzog T206's traveling to Cooperstown Show & the National

These two rare Herzog cards received a lot of attention and inquiries at both the Cooperstown Show and at the National. Anyhow, they will be traveling
further west to the Culver City (California) Show in October. Where they stop is anyone's guess.

Mark Macrae and I had really great Shows in both Cooperstown and Chicago. And, we hit some fine eating places on our travels in between.

I acquired this beautiful 1910 COUPON Chance....which has great eye. . .Got this AB 460 Crawford in a reasonable trade. A card which I've lost out
appeal. And, an upgrade on the current one in my Super-Print subset . . .on in four Auctions. Of which, the AB 460 Crawfords went for crazy prices.

. .
. .

A highlight of my Chicago Show was a nice deal on this 1888 S.F. Hess (N321) John Smith (San Francisco Pioneers) of which I could not pass up.

Thanks for the compliment. I always wanted one of these N321 cards for my type set. The price was nice....so I purchased it.

Actually, this card looks better than my scan (my scanner doesn't scan SGC graded cards clearly).

Chris

Great meeting you; and, we certainly had some really interesting chats....Talkin T206's.

And, you are right....the 1910 COUPON Chance looks even better than my scan. My old EPSON scanner doesn't scan graded cards as well as it does ungraded cards.

Keep in touch,

TED Z

I had been looking for a nice S.F. Hess for my type set. So, when I saw this one with a reasonable price on it, it was mine.

Thanks for dropping over to visit with me at the National.

Did you pick up some interesting cards ?

It was nice to finally meet you too ted...I did NOT pick up anything of significance...that n154 duke presidential card...got a few cards graded. More of a social visit for me. Although I did make quite a score when I returned home sunday night at a local auction house!!!

Hello good buddy,

Met with quite a number of Net54er's at the National; and, one topic of conversation was the famous EPDG thread of your's (posted in 2006)............

I thought you'd like to hear of this.

Take care,
