This subject line in my spam cracked me up this morning. I guess Paypal has hired a bunch of Francophone workers whose English is a bit iffy.

I was also thinking about the "sucker born every minute" idea-- is there a single person in the world who would be taken in by this one?

Most email scams of this type originate in Africa, Nigeria being one of the most prolific. Nigeria was a former French colony, with French being the language of the educated class. Hence my connection to the spelling of the email scam.

I couldn't agree more regarding the origin of email scams. But Nigeria is a former British colony.

You're right. I guess I better look more closely next time instead of assuming (as I did) that all of west Africa were former French colonies.

Nigeria is the big gaping grey hole on the sea of French colonial blue.

A large # of the world's worst rat holes were French colonies; the mail exceptions being the pieces of India and North America that the British took over early on. Apparently, the French colonies were the Citroens of colonies.
