Both of these auctions just ended on ebay...as I'm sure some of you saw. I saw them kinda last minute and decided I liked them both...on different levels...the coupon as it's a nice pose yet is rarer than it's t206 counterpart...and the pinkerton...despite it's pin holes...due to it's more unique pose and it's scarcity. Both ended similarly pricewise as well

I won one of them...and am quite happy...which would you rather have in your collections...not to re-sell!

I must have seen 12 of the T206's this weekend, so they could be picked up anytime. I would go with the Pinkerton.

Pete, I had seen the auction that you had won and would definitely want the Pinkerton ahead of the T213. Some people are not as into postcards as others, but that is really a cool pose.

thanks guys for giving me positive affirmation on my purchase. as my budget for buying cards is relatively small...spending $400 on a card sometimes can give me heartburn!!!! And, yes...postcards have certainly grown on me over the years...although I consider Pinkertons cards!

I just picked up a Pinkerton Mathewson on ebay, but I was thinking of bidding on this one too because it has the scarcer scorecard back (at least I think it is scarcer).

In answer to your question, I would go with the Pinkerton as it is definately a less common pose.

Pete,

As your brother, I think you made a great choice. The Pinkerton pose is not seen often, may be unique. I was watching that when it was around $200. And just when I went to snipe, it shot up quickly. Good purchase w/ nice eye appeal for a SGC10.

mike...thanks for the thumbs up brutha! i'm usually about rarity over mainstream issues...except in some cases...and while I'm sure the card is not unique...it's definitely tougher than a t213-2...and offers a cooler pose!

Just to add a side note here: The Matty in Barry's auction used to be mine. I sold a while back. It came from an estate auction in Kansas - I bought a group of 12 (I think) of them for $25. The lot had 8 HOFers in it. I just wish I would have kept them. The matty is a great looking card.

Bryan- that's the first time I've heard that story. One of the things I've found time and again is how familiar cards get sold, and then sometime later reappear.

We are all different and I am in no way diminishing your purchase. Again, as long as your happy with your choice-that's all that matters. For me, I really like the more obscure "Louisiana" cards. I find the regional aspect of them fascinating and I like the multi-colored T213-2 Matty better than the Pinkerton. Additionally, a VG 40 for a T213-2 can actually be considered high-grade. I don't think many Matty's have graded higher than that. Finally Peter, I tend to like smaller, more portable slabs. I also generally only collect items that grade SGC 30-60. That would be my criteria.

Thanks for your explanation, James...all good, valid points. I also much prefer smaller slabs...but every now and then...exceptions must be made!!!
