I have just taken a near set of trimmed blank back in on consignment for my next auction. Just about every card is trimmed about 1/4" by hand, some very rough. The Thorpe is the big $ card in the collection. I know these are extremely rare, but how desirable is a card is such off grade? -Josh |

I think Jay Behrens is the expert on this card but I don't think he posts here anymore. |

I've bid on graded Thorpe M101-5s in the past, but do not own one. It's desirable, but HIGHLY more desirable if you were to get it into a AUT holder. I'll let others put a price tag on it, although I have my "guess." |

I agree it needs to get graded authentic--well worth the grading cost to grant prospective buyers peace of mind. |

Todd - There was a 5 or 6 on ebay a few months back that ended well under 10k if I recall. |

if you can get a 5 for $10K, more power to you. I see where an 8OC went for $44K in the Robt Edwards auction. If you disregard the OC and apply the 60% analysis, then a 7 would be worth $26.5K, a 6 worth about $16k and a 5 about 9600. So use that for your pricing points if you wish, which would make this one worth around what, $750.00?. I'd wager you get more than that at auction. All I know is that card is scarce and for those who have to have it, they will pay. |

i was surprised the psa5 in june went so low. i think leon was the underbid and the winner was a mysterious dude. i don't have vcp anymore but i remember the 3rd bid was less than 6k. the card seems to be popping up more frequently the last couple years. |

I was the 2nd underbidder on this (1224 feedback), the underbidder on the D303 Wagner (darn it) and outbid Toby on the T216 Cobby, all from this same seller, in one evening....if I remember correctly? I would guess the trimmed Thorpe would be 1k or a little more in auction....I should have bid more before......but can't buy everything |

Thanks everyone for your input. A agree it should be be sent to SGC to obtain max value. My scenerio is the cards came in today and my catalog goes to the printer Friday afternoon. My consignor did not want to hear about the costs of grading. It is an easy chance for someone to buy the card, send it in to SGC and make some $. He also had some Goudey's and 1939 Play Ball. He also understood that if a card is sent in for grading and comes back unauthentic the card can be returned for a full refund. The auction is September 6th and will be online next Thursday at www.fuscoauctions.com |

Here is the eBay # for the Jim Thorpe card that sells today. Guesses are in for the hammer price so we will see what happens! There are also many other M101-5 Blank Backs, Goudey's and Play Ball cards; |

For the most part the post you did about this being auctioned today should go in our B/S/T section. If everyone posted their ebay auctions on the front page it would be a mess....good luck with it....best regards |
