In the recently completed Huggins and Scott auction, 1915 Cracker Jack cards were offered and all sold. There were many bids registered. Both the SGC 5 Tinker and SGC 5 Wheat were sold at above average prices.... they were grouped with other HOF`s. Now I see them listed on e-bay starting at 9.99. I did not look through all of the recent ebay listings yet to see if others also were listed. Can some one who is smarter than I explain this ? very curious. Also I did win a couple of lots and my cards arrived today all badly scratched up. What`s the story on these guys? I don`t like to be negative but what the heck is going on?

My guess is the winner of the lot only needed one card and is turning around and selling the others through EBay to recoup some of the outlay. Or, selling all individually to try to make a quick profit.

I think H&S is on the up and up. Nothing but good dealings for me. Now if the pennants that I won show up scratchy then we got a problem.

What's unusual about buying a group of cards, even high-dollar ones, and selling the ones you don't want on eBay? If the $9.99 starting bid is a red flag for you, it shouldn't be. I think the general feeling is that a low starting bid doesn't play a role in the final price of a quality card.

What is the red flag about a group of cards selling, even for a high price, and then being sold again individually? I guess I am not seeing your point. On the scratched holders, if the auction house caused it, then I think they would work with you on getting them reholdered if you approached them in a professional manner. Also, while it's not mandatory it's usually better to try to work things out privately, as a matter of courtesy, before posting on the board......

When you wait excitedly for your lots to come and then they show up packaged together without sleeves and marred up its very disappointing and I would not have thought that could possibly happen....I was,.. frankly shocked and maybe over reacted.......

Lots of auction companies for whatever reason do not bother to clean up or replace scratched holders that they get from consignors. Given the trivial cost one would think they would.

Marty, no problem.

I lost a PSA 5 1915 CJ back in the early Spring and lo and behold the same CJ shows up in a "consignments" Ebay auction about a month later (same PSA cert) and I win it for $30 less then my bid from a month prior so maybe, just maybe this is a blessing in disguise for you.

I bought the lot below and after the auction was over someone posted how crazy the buyer was for spending $645 per card. I really only wanted the Hornsby. But, I wanted it bad!!! After I got the lot I immediately listed the majority of the cards on EBay at 99 cent starting bids. Several of the auctions went crazy. Many of those cards were first cards/rookies. Based on the prices I got for the cards and the value of a couple others I kept, I got the Hornsby for about $400. The Hornsby now rests in a SGC 30 holder.

This kind of thing happens all the time.

I received my first H&S winnings last week, professionally packaged and well protected. Final price was less than my high bid, so I was very happy and will be bidding in future auctions!

BTW, no I don't think its fishy that pieces of a (or the entire) won lot are on ebay in the weeks/months following the auction. Many people will look for group deals and resell them individually.

I too am very happy with my H & S purchases, and of course I'll be bidding in the future. Everything came packaged very well, their communication is fantastic, and it was just an overall great experience (as always with them).

I've seen the same thing with winnings from other auction houses as well. Sometimes within a few days of the auctions ending you see the items pop up on ebay. I don't see anything wrong with that, and if there is an opportunity to make a few bucks doing so, more power to you. If I wasn't so attached to some of my cards, I'd probably do the same thing.

I've sold cards within a month of winning them at an auction house. The reason: Something became available that I wanted more, and I needed to move a few pieces to make that possible.

I don't see the problem, either. This is what makes the hobby thrive (besides the Net54 dinner ). Huggins & Scott auctions are, if not the most, then one of the most reputable auction houses on earth.

This has got to be one of the most ridiculous threads Ive ever read.

First, as stated above, buying a lot, breaking it up and selling the cards individually on ebay happens all the time. I just recently bought a lot of 17 BVG graded T206 HOFers but only intended to keep a few of the cards. I've sold 13 of 17 so far, have one more to sell and will be keeping three for myself - at much lower prices than had I bought them individually. Not unusual or suspicious at all.

As for the scratched holders - that could just as easily have been caused by the consignor's storage method as it was H&S. Ive rec'd plenty of cards from ebay sellers that had scratched up slabs.

Included in the package I received yesterday from H&S were 15 graded cards. Ten were sold as one lot and were placed in a smaller box; each card/holder was in a sleeve. The other five cards/holders each were placed in their own sleeves.

OK.........Huggins and Scott have offered to make things right...I apologise for the ridiculous thread....I wasn`t familier with this outfit and my cards weren`t packaged with sleeves....... just felt a little curious to me..AS a first time customer I was disappointed......
