I've been looking at the 1863 Grand Match CDV's for only a short while, but I've become increasingly curious about a couple of things and wonder whether others might share my musings. First, the 1863 Jordan & Co. set of Grand Match CDVs or tickets were photos of Sam Wright Sr., Harry Wright, William Crossley, and William Hammond. There are multiple poses of Hammond - one with a cricket bat and one with a ball. There also seem to be multiple poses for Crossley. However, Crossley has changed clothes between poses. And frankly, the individual in the photos looks somewhat changed also. In addition, there is a photo from the same session of George Wright. The George Wright CDV shares the same Jordan & Co. logo on the back of the card but isn't printed with the "Admit Bearer..." ticket information. So we know that at least one photo was taken of a Wright family member that wasn't playing in the match. So, my question is this, is one of the "Crossleys" actually Dan Wright, one of Sam Sr.'s sons who reportedly didn't play either cricket or baseball? My second question is whether there might also have been a CDV photo taken of young Sam Wright. Take a look at the images on this web page. Any thoughts? |

Hi Jimmy. I'm sure there are a boatload of kid pics by Jordan & Co. I've seen a couple myself and also seen the table used in the photo that I posted in another photo that was unrelated - must have been a standard prop. I'm still curious about the Crossleys. If those are the same person then Crossley was quite a character. BTW, has anyone seen the backside of the CDV in the NYPL archives that I thought might be Dan Wright. I'm just curious if it's was a St. George's ticket or just a standard Jordan & Co. |

Crossley looks a bit different in each pose but those glaring eyes are the same in both. Are you sure Crossley's first name is William? That's the first time I've heard this, and of course I am writing up the text for Crossley as we speak. |
