Not good with the links but it is on the front page of Sports Collector Daily's website. Said there was an evicition notice on the door of their office. More to the story than what was previously stated. Doesn't sound good for GAI. |

doesn't matter what the business is. To have any kind of business in California you have to have a license. If you are operating a veterinary clinic, McDonalds, hairdresser, collectibles store, etc, You have to have a business licence. Ne exceptions |

Jerry, I'm guessing at least $1 -- which is why perhaps that GAI never got one. After all, you pay your rent first, right? |

Most states require some sort of registration or licensing process if for no other reason than to ensure the collection of taxes. |

Getting a standard business license is about no more challenging and expensive that getting a pet's license. It's a tax thing more than anything. Beyond legalities, as a business/businessman it's to your advantage to have a business license. There are tax breaks and some private business transactions require you to be a licensed business (such as wholesale, resale deals). |

1. You do not need a license from the state of CA to do business. If you do certain types of sales you need a resale permit for sales tax reporting, |

One of the first things you do is get a business license, the license provides you with a tax ID so the Feds can keep track of the money you are making. |

Do you mean so they can keep track of the money the business is "reporting". I'd be willing to bet that all recordable transactions are above the table. Since we live in such an honest society I couldn't imagine anybody trying to pull the wool over the eyes of the IRS. |

Boxingcardman has the concept pretty well correct. State of California itself does not license but if effect most all local municipalities do which in effect makes it required to do business in California. Also some counties require licensing (example San Diego County). Generally the license is issued using your Social security number or a FEIN number. If you do not have the license, you are illegally doing business. The fees are nominal so GAI should be able to afford them. Ignorance of the law is no excuse either. |

You obtain your Federal tax ID from the IRS directly. You obtain another ID number from the State of CA's EDD if you plan to have employees. If you are incorporated or an LLC you will also have an ID # assigned by the secretary of state. |
