White Sox collector in need of help

I have recentely got back into collecting and I am very excited but I want to make the right choices. I have heard nothing but good things about this site and those participating. I seek your knowledge and wisdom. I am a Chicago White sox fan and have decided to collect White sox cards. I am thinking about collecting Tobacco cards from a single set, such as T205 or T206. I have also thought about collecting the cards from the Black Sox era, but I know that cards were scarce form that era because of WW1. Any help would be greatly appreciated. My only constraints is that I dont want to break the bank, I want to have fun, the Cards should be accessible and I want the cards to be authentic and not altered or doctored. Please, I seek your expertice and opinions, Thanks.

being a w.sox fan myself i can relate a little bit. how about t206 for 1910 era and 30's era cards like goudey and diamond stars. these are easy to find and relativly cheap. you could pick up hall of fame players and semi stars of sox players. a t206 walsh in good or vg would cost under $200 and most of the other t206 sox players would probably run in good/vg condition about $25-35 each. so far as 30's cards go, you could pick up 33 and 34 goudeys of w.sox such as ted lyons,red faber and luke appling in vg shape for under $75 each. a zeke bonura diamond star you could pick up for about $20-25 in vg/ex. and the other sox players from these sets (diamond stars and 33-35 goudey would cost about 20-30 each in vg.) black sox players in the w514 strip card set issued in 1919-21 are pretty costly and in high demand (card collectors love cheats i guess). http://www.vintagecardtraders.com/virtual/

i put links to 2 great vintage card sites in the previous post. there you can look at cards from these and other sets. also the old cardboard site lists the top pre war card dealers on ebay and i think all of these sellers are legit and stand behind every thing they sell as authentic. correct me if i'm wrong here,but i have bought from quite a few of them w/no problems. hope this helps. by the way the t206 cards and goudey and diamond stars are easy to find and low in price and if i may add classic sets.

The T205, T206 and 1933-4 Goudey sets are all classics, good looking and relatively affordable. Any or all of those issues would be a good place to start. The T205 and T206s have Black Sox players.
