Hi Leon, it is newly listed in the 2006 SCD (page 86) as 1932 Chicago Cubs Team Issue, there are 6 checklisted so far. They are rare, I have only seen 2 of them including that one you won. |

I was told it was a variation of the W574 but if it's listed as a 1932 team issue then so be it. I felt kind of crushed when I heard it was a plain 'ole W574....now I feel a tad bit better. It's not like I haven't bought stuff before and made mistakes....I guess that's one way to learn. The older I get the more costly my learning gets though. I think I am tired of learning..... |

The only players known so far are all Cubs. They are very similar in design to the larger Cubs Picture Pack cards of 1932 and 1933, with same exact cropped grass area and signature. Except the picture packs have a dark background and these have a white background. |

Were W574s issued in strips? Maybe W574 isn't the right designation. I heard they were given out only at the stadium, so they could be considered "White Sox team issue cards" instead? Maybe a sister set was made at the same time for the Cubs? Same "set" - different distribution? Different set - same maker? Hopefully someone out there has more info... |

The pictures are almost identical to the larger Cubs photo set of 1932, I believe. I don't see any connection to W574. I have a couple of them too-- I think Bob Lemke gathered info from me, Eric Eichelkraut, and a couple of other folks to do the new checklist. It is almost certainly not complete. |

I agree with Tim, I don't see any correlation between this '32 Cubs issue and the W574's. Although they're very similar in size & shape, and both are reported as being issued in 1932, the likenesses really stop there. |

One other quick thought..the card I own has a million creases in it, almost as if it bent while being removed from something. I'm convinced it was because the backside has paper loss, much like a card glued into album would look. Tim & Leon~ what do the backsides of yours look like? Any paper loss/warping? |

I have four of them, May, Tinning, and two Gudats. The backs seem to consist of some sort of glossy/oily paper, kind of like the backs of 1950s hot dog cards (Dan Dee, Kahn's, etc.). I don't see any clear evidence that they were in albums. They are all creased, and a couple of them have staining, again not unlike later cards packed with meat. I don't suppose they could have been connected with carnivorous concessions of some kind? |

Thanks Tim..well, that dispells my idea! But I see a new one emerging here..the cards were actually given away as they were folded into hotdogs, sold at Wrigley. Unaware they were in there, Cubs fans devoured them..not realizing that a portion of their food would someday be a collectible. The comsumption of a great deal of these cards made them extremely rare..and vin board members are now spending rediclous amounts on them. ; ) |

A couple of mine just have that stained and slightly greasy look to them, but I have no idea whether that's significant. We need to get an expert like Peter C. in here to opine on paper stock and such matters. |

If fact, here are the original holders for those hot dogs, but without the greasy W574 paper things to hold the meat |
