Aren't S74 whites considered to be of far lesser value when they lack the paper backing? This one looks nice and is a HOFer, but there is no paper--can this be considered nm-mt without the backing? |

Not only does the silk NOT have the backing but there is fraying at the top from threads missing. |

I think most collectors accept the silks without the backings. The backings do add a pretty good premium. As you might already be aware, the color silks were issued without the paper backs. There are different manufacturers represented for the paper backed silks. |

Very interesting. I saw a Cobb w/o backing go for $200 and change about a year ago. My personal opinion on the silks, if they are missing the backing they should not be graded or downgraded significantly. |

Although it is true that colored silks are normally found without backing, several have been found with the backing. |

Patrick, do you know if the colors with backs also showed a brand and factory number printed on the front? |

The silks that should have backs and don't have them are damaged, that grade of 8 is not right. Should be at least 1/2 of that grade. I also would like to know if the colored silks that had paper backs had the advertising on the top and bottom? |

Sorry, I do not know. The lot description simply mentioned how rare it was to have backings on colored silks. |

but is it possible to "reback" these silks with the paper from a lesser player card? Is this a concern among collectors of this issue? |

In response to Joe's question, the colored silks with backing had the normal advertising on the front of the silks, but I do not know if anything was on the backing. |

The color silks were issued without any backing. The manufacturer (Old Mill, Turkey Red, Red Sun, Helmar) were printed on the front of the silk along with the factory information. |
