And wouldn't a DNA test cost hundreds of dollars at minimum to do, probably several times the value of the card? |

It's a bastard card so how's the DNA test going to prove anything? I guess the DNA test proves age and not parentage in the case of cards. Silly us to doubt such a claim... |

Barry - you have to umderstand that when testing a baseball card for DNA ... money is no object! I recently had a piece of wood tested for dna...it came back as authentic wood from a tree...i was happy! |

You have to laugh at the idea of giving a baseball card a DNA test. How about giving a Joe Jackson card a lie detector test to see if he really threw the series. It's just so silly. |

Anytime an eBayer says the paper or ink on a cardstock has been tested by a scientific lab, it is dubious claim at best. A lab test of ink or paper usually requires removing a pieces of ink or paper from the card to test those samples (and they don't put them back on when they're done). Not only would the test be destructive to the card and cost a lot of money, it is almost never needed ... And, needless to say, there is no such thing as genetically testing baseball cards-- not even in paternity cases. |

Maybe DNA stands for "Did Not Authenticate" in this particular auction. |

to answer barry's question to sequence the full genome is quite costly, on the order of several hundred thousands of dollars(a few years ago it was on the order of tens of millions). however, to do simple testing like you see on tv crime dramas the cost is on the order of less then 100 dollars for small scall and even less for large scale and is quite a routine practice in modern molecular biology. |

Though, from what I've gathered from Law & Order, these crime scene DNA tests require a sample from an acutal human instead of an ink reproduction on cardboard. |

Certified would require the opinion of a different kind of doctor. Maybe if a parent or scool counselor had taught baseball cards how to get in tough with their feelings there wouldn't be the need for cards to be certified years later. |
